What do you think?

Popular name circa 2010. We quite like it now, it goes well with our surname and thinking of using it if we have a boy. Just wanted to ask your thoughts about whether it is a classic name or dated.

It's a good name for a girl too.

LulusMiniEgg · 23/12/2018 20:44

My DS (4) is Jude and I still love it! He was actually named after the Courteeners album despite us living 15 miles north of Liverpool so most associate it to the Beatles. So older ladies, including MIL, love it too.
NN include Judy, Judilicious but that’s just me, not anyone else, it’s too short to shorten.
Don’t know any other Jude’s but have met a couple of people who do know others.
Go for if you like it. Or how about Rudy, that was a close runner up and my DH wanted to call another son it when I was pregnant but I vetoed that one, Jude and Rudy?! No thanks!

Anythingforacatslife · 23/12/2018 21:06

I know three, all different ages, all gorgeous boys. None of them are known by nicknames.

tammytoby · 24/12/2018 08:56

Jude doesn't travel well internationally.

Pronounced Yoo-de in German and means Jew.

Cbeebiesrehab · 24/12/2018 10:08

I don’t understand this whole ‘it means Jew’ thing. Why is that an issue? Plenty of boys are called Christian.

tammytoby · 24/12/2018 14:40

Because Christian is a name in most languages.

Jude is not a name but a noun in other languages

ForAMinuteThere · 24/12/2018 14:43

It's one of my favourites.

Hohocabbage · 24/12/2018 14:43

So many currently popular names are Jewish ones from the OT/Torah.

SnowyPaws5 · 24/12/2018 15:27

Love it.

Itsear · 25/12/2018 02:58

It is ok, a fashionable biblical name at the moment, same as Elijah, Ezra, Caleb etc. I actually prefer John.

daisypond · 25/12/2018 09:00

I really like it. I only know two in their mid-20s, none younger than that, and there's Jude Law, of course.

Eviecee · 25/12/2018 09:42

I have a Jude, he's 13. My ex partner loved the name, she'd had a neighbour called Jude as a child.

I was well aware it means 'jew' in german. Im half jewish. My jewish grandmother loved his name, she felt it was a positive reclaiming (she was a holocaust survivor).

He is the only Jude in his school. We've only come across 1 other Jude locally (aged 8). No nicknames ever used by his peers tho we sometimes call him Joodles Smile

Nicknamesalltaken · 25/12/2018 09:47

My Jude is a fully grown man. No one calls his Judas or Judy.

He is bloody gorgeous. It’s a good name.

motherlondon · 25/12/2018 12:06

There is a lovely little Jude at my kids school.
I love it but Jude the Obscure is so terribly tragic and sad, I couldn't use it fir my child's name.

deptfordgirl · 25/12/2018 16:02

I used to love it and was going to use it but I have slightly gone off it now. It sounds a little dated to me as I know quite a few 5/6 year olds called it.

rainbowstardrops · 25/12/2018 16:22

I really like it

Grinchly · 25/12/2018 18:40

So many bad/ odd connotations. Jude the Obscure, Hey Jude, Judas, the Nazi Star of David association , Jude the patron St of lost causes - and to cap it all horribly uneuphonious .

How about John, or Joel?

Jude the patron saint of lost causes is the best...he’s the saint you turn to when all hope is lost, when everyone else gives up...he helps them in their biggest time of need. What could be better than that? (I will defend the name until the bitter end😂)

PantTwizzler · 27/12/2018 01:57

Totally agree cbeebiesrehab.
Lovely name.

NikiFree · 27/12/2018 15:32

I know a Jude.

Lovely name. People are more likely to think Jude Law than Nazi Germany

RavenWings · 27/12/2018 15:37

It's a horrible name with a really ugly, unattractive sound. One of my pet hates namewise.

Sallygoroundthemoon · 27/12/2018 15:51

A lovely name for a boy. I dislike it for a girl though.

avocadosrus · 27/12/2018 15:55

I have a Jude he's 14, he's got long blonde hair and looks like a surfer. It really suits him & I absolutely love the name and more importantly so does he. He's never had a negative reaction to his name (to my knowledge)

BeFire · 27/12/2018 16:04

Like Jude, love Judah.
