We LOVE the name Atticus but we've been getting lots of negative feedback.
What are your opinions?

I like it.

DeadDoorpost · 20/12/2018 12:13

My DS was called Atticus during my pregnancy because we didn't want anyone knowing his name before he was born. But DH and I both like the name.

In fact, it even left an impression on a friend of mine who named her DS Atticus this year.

If you like it, go for it!

ThePeppermintMonkey · 20/12/2018 12:18

It's awful. It's a very unattractive name imho.

amusedbush · 20/12/2018 12:24

I know someone with a baby Atticus but honestly, I think it's just too much. Really wanky and try hard.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 20/12/2018 12:27

Atti is absolutely awful.

Quickerthanavicar · 20/12/2018 12:29

I think it's lovely.

SilkenTofu · 20/12/2018 13:16

I think it is unusual and beautiful.

Call your DC whatever you like and don't give a shit about what anyone else thinks.

greendale17 · 20/12/2018 13:22

Awful, ugly name

AvonCallingBarksdale · 20/12/2018 13:26

I’ve always really liked Atticus however I think it will depend on where you live and your socio economic bracket to be brutally honest. Or you just go with it regardless 🤷‍♀️

Charbovari · 20/12/2018 13:28

Sorry but to most people it really will appear try hard.

Could someone who thinks Atticus is a 'try hard' name unpack this for me? What is it that you think someone who calls their child Atticus is 'trying hard' to be?

wentmadinthecountry · 20/12/2018 13:33

I'm with the Go Set a Watchman people. Wouldn't want my child named after a bigot.

Plaiceholder · 20/12/2018 13:38

Middle name Roofus or Loftus?

tammytoby · 20/12/2018 13:41

I also don't get this?! Trying hard choose a great name? Should parents just pick a random top 10 name?

I think Atticus is a great name. What am I doing that's 'trying too hard' Confused?!

Wallabyone · 20/12/2018 13:42

Bloody hell, I can't believe how many people think a child will be bullied for their name. Unless you live in a place with no ethnicities other than 'White British', there are a whole world of not Jack or Olivia's. If you like the name OP then go for it, it's not stupid or weird, or a non-name.

tammytoby · 20/12/2018 13:47

The only kid that was teased a little for his name at our school was William with Willy.

But what on earth is tease worthy about Atticus?

IHopeThisIsAGoodIdea · 20/12/2018 14:05

It's not a name for people IRL.

IdblowJonSnow · 20/12/2018 14:31

Fancy kids in state schools having 'out there' names- hilarious! Grin

What will they think of next?!

Not keen on Atticus, sorry op.

Sabulous · 20/12/2018 14:35

The most important thing is that you two like it. Don't change the name to something you like less because you're worried about what other people think.

firstbrightday · 20/12/2018 14:37

I LOVE it but don't know if I could ever use it. Maybe for a middle name?

dailyshite · 20/12/2018 15:37

My cat was called Catticus (now anyone who knows me will know who I am)

Bringbackthestrioes · 20/12/2018 15:44

Heard someone calling their little Atticus over to them in the garden centre this summer, it caused at least two separate families to snigger -made me feel sorry for the boy- so for that reason I’m not keen.

You should never share a name before you’ve given it, it saves someone ruining it for you.

Cherries101 · 20/12/2018 15:50

I know two dogs called Atticus. No humans though.

DataColour · 20/12/2018 16:25

I love it.

My DS who is 10 is called Atticus. He's never been bullied. It's just a name. Lots of unusual names in his school and also in the area we live in. Only ever had positive comments about his name.

Use it if you love it, it's a lovely name!

tammytoby · 20/12/2018 16:31

Actually makes me feel sorry for the sniggering families! What narrow mindedness and how rude! Their poor children have great parent role models.

Rudgie47 · 20/12/2018 16:37

Very pretentious and naff. If you cant think of anything decent then stick to a traditional name.
