We LOVE the name Atticus but we've been getting lots of negative feedback.
What are your opinions?

I like it. But I think it's a name for a lizard or a goat, not a baby.

Sophronia · 18/12/2018 19:24

Try hard.

scunner · 18/12/2018 19:46

Beautiful name. It shouldn’t matter what others think about it.
If you like the name, then go for it.

NotANotMan · 18/12/2018 20:00

I know an Atticus and his parents call him Attie. I hate it.

oser · 18/12/2018 20:19

I don't think it's too much but I also don't like the name.

babysharkah · 18/12/2018 20:53

I freaky love it.

babysharkah · 18/12/2018 20:53

Eh??? Really!

tammytoby · 18/12/2018 21:42

Atticus is a great name! Cool, strong and interesting.

Pleasegotosleep01 · 18/12/2018 21:44

There are lots of toddlers in West London called Atticus. Seems popular here.

Hundredacrewoods · 18/12/2018 21:47

Very pretentious, sorry.

PersonaNonGarter · 18/12/2018 21:48

Needy.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 18/12/2018 21:49

There was someone else on here asking about Scout for a girl.

Are you a 'To Kill a Mockingbird' fan?

Moominfan · 18/12/2018 21:50

I really like it. There's enough oscars and Oliver's in the world

CrookedMe · 18/12/2018 21:53

You may as well strap a sign on him that says 'my parents are so very well-read'

llangennith · 18/12/2018 21:56

Surprised myself by liking it! But what would you shorten it to as it's a bit of a mouthful?

glitterfarts · 18/12/2018 22:01

I love it. I know one, who is DD1's age (yr 6) and it doesn't get shortened.

Way better than all the old-men names around now.

Argeles · 18/12/2018 22:04

I adore it, and it’s definitely in my list of top 5 boys names.

DramaAlpaca · 18/12/2018 22:05

Way too much.

PetuliaBlavatsky · 18/12/2018 22:08

I'm much more low-brow than the PPs because my first thought was Atticus Grammaticus Catticus Claw books. It's a great name for a cat but a bit too much for a human.

FoundNeverland · 18/12/2018 22:08

Too many horrible nicknames. Shatticus and Fatticus are the first two that come to mind.

GinaLinetti99 · 18/12/2018 22:09

Too much for me.

tammytoby · 18/12/2018 22:23

Any name can be made fun of like that eg Artie Fartie, Smelly Ellie, Willy William, Silly Billy etc etc

That's not a reason to reject a name!

I love Atticus. It's a strong name that makes a refreshing change from all the Olives and Jacks.

TitusAndromedom · 18/12/2018 22:58

I pushed for it on our boys’ list, but the secondary school students I teach told me it would be changed to Ass-kiss by every child my son was likely to encounter. It was a fair point.

stealthbanana · 18/12/2018 23:06

One of my great friends has an Atticus and he mostly goes by Atti. I really didn’t like it when I first heard it but (as is always the case with these things) it’s reallh grown on me (and him!).

If you like it I would just go with it and not worry too much about others - it’s not a made up name or out there in any real sense. Your DS will grow into it and people will forget they objected once they get used to it!

PsychedelicSheep · 18/12/2018 23:40

I heard a well to do lady calling her toddler Atticus in the local park a while back. I remember thinking at the time what a wanky thing to call your kid.

Maybe use it as a middle name, anything goes as a middle name imo.
