DD is Eleanor.

Here are some names we like but haven't found the 'one' - and due in two weeks!

Bethany
Ivy
Matilda
Violet - bit pretentious maybe?!

Driving me crazy!!

All beautiful. Violet is my favourite!

DramaAlpaca · 10/12/2018 22:48

Violet goes nicely with Eleanor & isn't pretentious IMO.

I wouldn't have a Matilda & Eleanor, it's a bit medieval queenly.

Atalune · 10/12/2018 22:51

Love violet.

Sophronia · 10/12/2018 22:58

I like Bethany. The others are very 2018.

IWouldPreferNotTo · 10/12/2018 22:59

Violet is very good, on the Matilda style you also have Harmony (children's books with girl leads with magic powers).

If you really take the Matilda theme (Valkyrie) then you'd also have Sigrún, Kára, Eir

Holidayshopping · 10/12/2018 23:00

I’m not keen on Bethany (have taught lots!) but the others are all lovely!!

TinselAngel · 10/12/2018 23:01

Go full Austen and have Marianne.

JW1226 · 10/12/2018 23:30

FogCutter · 10/12/2018 23:31

Lydia
Caroline
Cecelia/ Celia
Charlotte
Alice
Beatrix

GoodHeavensNoImAChicken · 10/12/2018 23:34

They’re all lovely but please not Bethany- overused and nowhere near as elegant as your other choices

MrsFoxPlus4 · 11/12/2018 04:21

Why’s Violet pretentious? It’s the nicest name on the list imo

Icklepup · 11/12/2018 04:36

Violet

Pemba · 11/12/2018 05:07

I like Bethany, the others are all very 2018 like a pp said. Quite like Matilda, and it goes very well with Eleanor.

I know Violet is popular now, but it has echoes of 'vile' and 'violent'. It has an attractive meaning but not an attractive sound. The French Violette is nicer as the pronunciation is 'vee-oh-let' rather than 'vye'. Or Viola is nice.

I don't get all the current love for Ivy either.

Enidblyton1 · 11/12/2018 05:41

Matilda is by far my favourite of your list - classic and goes well with Eleanor.

Bethany is very 1990s
Ivy and Violet are very much having a renaissance now. I like Violet much more than Ivy, which always seems a harsh name to me (and reminds me of that awful character on Coronation st years ago!)

BikeRunSki · 11/12/2018 05:51

Violet is not st all pretentious, but it is very popular.

Shadow1234 · 11/12/2018 06:08

Matilda is the only one i prefer on your list.

Georgia
Freya
Imogen
Saffron
Meredith
Alyssa
Clarissa
Elise
Loise
Sophia
Rosa

Daneel · 11/12/2018 07:48

Four of your five names were also on my shortlist. Also on it were:

Jocelyn
Avril
Meredith
Philippa
Persephone
Nicola

Littlelambpeep · 11/12/2018 07:49

Anna

Astronica · 11/12/2018 08:37

You have 4 lovely names on your list and any of them would be great as Eleanor's sister. I think Violet is my favourite - but all good - and it's not pretentious at all.

Anneliese
Beatrix
Georgia
Georgina
Imogen
Anwen
Adelaide
Clementine
Clemency
Florence
Genevieve

Pinklily1 · 11/12/2018 10:34

I’m not keen on Bethany at all, but like your other choices. Matilda is lovely but also very popular at the minute. I’d go with Violet or Ivy.

CheeseTheDay · 11/12/2018 12:38

I think Eleanor and Matilda would make a beautiful sister set.

Violet and Ivy both work well too.

My favourite name out of them is Ivy though.

Bethany is dated (late 90's.early 00's), and quite frankly, doesn't have the vintage charm that Eleanor, Matilda, Violet and Ivy all do. Plus the name was ruined for me (I did used to like it), when I heard a mum scream out 'Beff-neeee' to her daughter, in the supermarket once. I've never been able to look at it the same way since!

stellarfox · 11/12/2018 13:03

I really find Bethany dated! Your other names are lovely

Santababyclaus · 11/12/2018 13:13

I would pair Eleanor with Clara, Alice, Beatrice, Elisabeth, Lucy, Harriet, Florence, Catherine, Charlotte, Madeleine or Rose.

Emptyspace · 11/12/2018 17:52

Not keen on Violet or Ivy although they are popular on here. I’ve never known a Bethany so surprised to hear pp say it’s common. It goes with Eleanor. I like Matilda best.
