I don't like my baby's name

I didn't like any boys names while pregnant and went through list upon list and settled on a name that I liked but didn't love. It was the boys name that I liked the most. He's now 4 weeks old and I'm really going off the name, I don't think that I like it at all anymore and doesn't feel that it suits him. I'm not with his father anymore. I'm just going to have to deal with it, aren't I?

Is there a particular name you like more? If not, keep his current name.

Aquamarine1029 · 11/11/2018 01:48

What's his name? You definitely can change it, and the sooner the better.

moredoll · 11/11/2018 03:04

Change it. Keep his current name as a middle name if you like. There's no point in him having a name you regret. It's much easier to change the baby's name before they're 12 months.

jjemimapuddleduck · 11/11/2018 03:19

Do you have an alternative?

ElizabethMainwaring · 11/11/2018 03:42

Definitely change it. You won't regret it. Any ideas you want to share?

MrsFoxPlus4 · 11/11/2018 04:18

You can change it. Is there a name you like more? Care to share it with us?

ellytil · 11/11/2018 05:17

His name is Ezra. I don't have another name in mind in particular but every name that I hear I now prefer Ezra. My main issue is that I'm not with his father and we aren't on the greatest of terms.

Ezra is beautiful but more to the point - is the father in the birth certificate? Does he get a say?

costacoffeecup · 11/11/2018 05:59

Change it, not because I'm not keen on Ezra but because you're not!

MrsFoxPlus4 · 11/11/2018 07:04

I think Ezra is lovely. I wouldn’t go making any decisions if you can’t decide on another name but it is doable.

babydreamer1 · 11/11/2018 08:25

I take it you've registered him and put the father on the birth certificate so you'd need his permission to change it? Ezra is nice though, I also like Edris.

stellarfox · 11/11/2018 09:47

There is no reason why you can’t change it especially as it’s so early on. Some people change the name quite a lot later. There are quite a few threads on this on Reddit if you want to read any. I do like the name though but if you’re unhappy with it then go for it and change it! Did you come up with the name or your ex partner?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 11/11/2018 10:12

Elijah?

Ricekrispie22 · 11/11/2018 10:17

Does he have a middle name?

ellytil · 11/11/2018 10:20

His middle name is Jasper. I really like Jasper but his father doesn't. I think I'm just going to have to stick with Ezra and hopefully learn to love it

OP posts:
Fifthtimelucky · 11/11/2018 10:37

If you really like Jasper, just call him by his middle name.

TatianaLarina · 11/11/2018 12:48

Love Jasper. Don’t Ezra. Do it.

You risked your health to give birth to him so you get the last say. Plus you’re not even with the dad any more.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 11/11/2018 14:52

I have cousins who go by their middle name. Even at school they were known as that.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 11/11/2018 14:54

I genuinely didn’t even remember Scott’s name was actually William Scott Surname until their wedding lol

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 11/11/2018 14:57

You don't have to stick to a name you don't love. Jasper is so much nicer than Ezra imo.

Moonflower12 · 11/11/2018 16:38

Just use Jasper. I've lots of friends and was at school with lots of people who are known by their middle name.

Idontwanttogo · 11/11/2018 16:41

I changed ds name to his middle name when he was 3 months old he's 17 now as he prefers his middle name. Ezra is a great name though.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 11/11/2018 16:43

IMHO Ezra is far nice than Jasper but it's obviously purely subjective

Do you think that your dislike of the name is really an extension of your dislike of your DS's Dad? (especially if he helped chose the name)

ellytil · 11/11/2018 17:08

It's definitely not an extension of my dislike of his father. I just don't really like the name all that much and he doesn't feel like an Ezra.

MikeUniformMike · 11/11/2018 17:26

I'm not keen on Ezra, and it has become very popular very quickly, so will date. I like Jasper. If you have not registered him yet, swap the names around, or choose a new first name. If you have registered him you can change his name on the BC.
