Have loved the name Willow since pregnant with DS and am now pregnant with a DD :-) The other names we like are:

Priya
Margot

My husband and I both like names that are 'different' but not 'made up sounding' And I like a name not too cutesy or frilly so it carries well to adulthood. Any opinions/suggestions please?

I think Priya is very odd unless you have Asian heritage, which it doesn't sound like from your other names.

DragonGoby · 18/10/2018 14:18

Agree, Priya is an Indian name.

I like Willow. Also Clover (which feels similar to Willow to me).

Cbeebiesrehab · 18/10/2018 14:22

From your username it looks like your son may be called Hugo? If so you can’t have a Margot and a Hugo.
Willow is nice but I have seen a few comments on threads on here before suggesting what if she isn’t ‘willowy’ in stature, she could be called Whomping Willow (Harry Potter) if not quite so elegant. It put me off slightly (but my kids are short lol) but I think most people could look past that if they loved the name.

HugoBearsMummy · 18/10/2018 14:35

I agree about the Hugo/Margot thing actually, and had my doubts but your opinions have confirmed it, thank you, it's struck off the list!
No Indian heritage, but I 'look' as though I could be, very long dark hair, big dark brown eyes, tanned/olive skin tone. My son is similar looks-wise.
Clover is pretty but I do associate it with the butter spread unfortunately!
Any other suggestions?

If you like Priya use Priya!

Peachbubble · 18/10/2018 14:40

Maeve
Elodie
Greta
Norah

midsomermurderess · 18/10/2018 14:42

Priya is lovely but I agree that it is very culturally specific. For now anyway.

HugoBearsMummy · 18/10/2018 14:44

I like Maeve! Any other nature theme names that aren't too flowery/frilly?

Tightlippedmama · 18/10/2018 15:11

I don’t know why but Celia just popped into my head, when I read your post.

Non frilly, proper name.

EvieV28 · 18/10/2018 15:17

Willow is gorgeous.
I'm a big fan of Violet right now.

Nellyelora · 18/10/2018 15:19

Willow was the 26th most popular name in 2017 so it's not really different these days. However, I prefer it over Priya and Margot

HugoBearsMummy · 18/10/2018 15:30

Violet is lovely but I know of quite a few :-/ ! And DH doesn't like it because he said it sounds like 'Vile' ??!! Lol.
Willow is becoming more popular, I agree, but I only know of 1 personally.

As a big buffy fan I really like willow. Other nature names;
Iris
Aspen
Eden
Autumn
Primrose
Ember
Fern
Heather
Tulip
Meadow

HugoBearsMummy · 18/10/2018 15:57

@DC2018 I love the name Autumn, and it's my favourite season, but she'll be born in February, so a bit odd to call her that really...
I like Eden, Fern and Primrose too! Ember is lovely but DH best friend has an Amber so I fear too similar-sounding. Thank you for your suggestions :-)

BareBelliedSneetch · 18/10/2018 16:40

Hazel is a lovely, non-frilly nature name. Or Rowan.

Undeadringer · 18/10/2018 16:43

Priya makes me think of a car. Willow is lovely, and Hazel as a pp suggested.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 18/10/2018 17:42

You don't have to be born in Autumn robe called Autumn Grin

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 18/10/2018 17:42

To be not robe Hmm

FawnDrench · 18/10/2018 18:01

Love Margot -classy, elegant, beautiful name.

averylongtimeago · 18/10/2018 18:11

How about Zilpha- it's a very old name, not frilly, but I think pretty.

iamthefox · 18/10/2018 18:16

I love the name Willow

Other suggestions related to nature:

Laurel
Sylvie

Shadow1234 · 18/10/2018 20:18

Other suggestions, although not all nature themes

Wren
Neve
Courtney
Romy
Remi
Mica
Summer
Erin
Rosa
Rosina
Rosalie
Thea
Ashleigh
Lyra
Estelle
Loretta

HugoBearsMummy · 18/10/2018 20:44

@Shadow1234 DH likes Remi, inspired by Jane Doe in the TV programme Blindspot lol :-) , I’m not 100% though. I like Wren lots, but DH said it’s a kitchen manufacturer lol !! I do think Willow is the front runner and it’s nice to hear a lot of people who have an unbiased opinion like it too.
Does it matter that our surname begins with a W too? Sounds NOTHING like Willow though... think along the lines of Wright ...

HugoBearsMummy · 18/10/2018 20:46

@GreatDuckCookery I know but I just think lovely names such as summer autumn and winter sound really odd if the baby isn’t born within that season ha ha! Silly but I think it’d kill my OCD

I think using Maeve without being Irish is as weird as using Priya without being Indian, tbh.

I like Willow, and Clover.
