Have loved the name Willow since pregnant with DS and am now pregnant with a DD :-) The other names we like are:

Priya
Margot

My husband and I both like names that are 'different' but not 'made up sounding' And I like a name not too cutesy or frilly so it carries well to adulthood. Any opinions/suggestions please?

Willow is great and isn't too common imo, I also love Clover but get that the butter link isn't ideal. Lorelei has a similar feel to Willow imo, Alma could work too perhaps or Olive

Shadow1234 · 18/10/2018 21:17

If you both really love Willow, then I think you should definitely go with it. Its a beautiful name and I dont think it matters that your surname begins with a 'W', if, as you say, it has a totally different sound to Willow.

Thank you everyone for your opinions and suggestions they’ve been very helpful Smile

Iris
Vivienne
Audrey
Anoushka

I like Willow but think Priya (although it’s a beautiful name) is slightly strange with no Indian connection.

Any of the following ?
Leah/Lea
Rowan
Rowena
Ashlie (Nn Ash)
Laurel
Rose
Calla
Linden
Tamar/Tamara

HugoBearsMummy · 18/10/2018 22:03

I like Rowan but for a boy!! I’m beginning to feel the same way about Priya... albeit very pretty... it is very foreign sounding. I think the final decision will be made once she’s here so we can see her features... what do people think of Harper? I saw that on another thread and immediately liked it and DH did too...

I think Harper is nice (As in Harper Lee) but I think the Beckhams have set a trend and there may be a lot of them about because they used it if that’s a concern?
My DB was at college with a girl called Linden and I’ve always thought it so pretty since then?

Love Margot!

IzzyGrey · 19/10/2018 03:52

I hate all this "you can't use a name unless you have heritage from that country". It's ridiculous! If you like Priya use it. I adore Margot and don't think Margot and Hugo is a problem - I actually think it sounds really cool. I used to love willow but it's got very very common recently and has lost what made it special and unique (in my opinion). What about Willa?

DragonGoby · 19/10/2018 07:02

Izzy - it’s more that your child will spend their whole life explaining that, no, they don’t have Indian heritage, and no, they’re not sure why their parents called them by an Indian name. I have a friend called Christophe who is continually asked if his parents are French, sometimes people even speak French to him and expect him to understand. He and his family are from Lincolnshire!

Lipsticktraces · 19/10/2018 07:09

Not Harper. People will think of the Beckhams!

As a huge Buffy fan I think Willow is very cool. I also really like Margot, but agree you can’t have it with Hugo.

Also think Hazel is a pretty and underused name these days. I’m

I’ve never heard of Willa, I think it sounds a bit ‘made up’ ?! I don’t really like it sorry Blush ! But @Sungura you have made some lovely suggestions on your long list so I’ll go through them with DH later. The W at the end of Willow wouldn’t be a problem because altho surname is a W it’s an R sound IYSWIM...
