Ollie - girl

ZebraKid71 · 08/10/2018 20:40

My dh really likes Ollie for a girl.

I have come around to quite liking it but I don't like nn type names as formal names.
What else can Ollie be short for?
I don't really like Olivia, I don't mind Olive but it doesn't really need a shortening.

Any ideas? Tia.

OatsBeansBarley · 08/10/2018 20:46

Olga
Olympia
Oleanna (was a stage play but I've never heard the name used otherwise.)

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 08/10/2018 21:00

Ottaline is quite nice ( I think ) but not sure how you'd get Ollie out of it.

SingingSands · 08/10/2018 21:01

I know a girl called Ollie. Just Ollie, nothing else.

To be honest I wasn't sure at first, she was only 5 when I met her, but she's been rocking it through her teens and beyond!

Now I think it's pretty cool.

caoje · 08/10/2018 21:41

I also like Ollie as a stand-alone name for a girl!

Sophronia · 08/10/2018 22:52

Olalla

Sophronia · 08/10/2018 22:54

Olivera

Sungura · 09/10/2018 00:08

Olathe means " Beautiful "in Native American. o-LA-tha.
Olena
Olefin
Oliana
Olinda
Olisa

Sungura · 09/10/2018 00:10

Sorry. The third name is Olesia.

Pemba · 09/10/2018 01:16

Boy's name.

Sunflower321 · 09/10/2018 07:06

Ollie can be short for

Olivia
Olive
Ottilie

I know a 14 year Ollie but don't know if it's short for anything or if it's her full name

JaretsGirlfren · 09/10/2018 07:10

I really like it for a girl, which is strange because I’m not that keen for a boy,

ThanksItHasPockets · 09/10/2018 07:29

Oliver is literally the most popular boys’ name in the country. This may or may not bother you but be aware that your DD will be around a lot of Ollies as she goes through school and beyond.

Sunflower321 · 09/10/2018 13:33

Olivia is also the most popular girls name!

So lots of girl Ollies too.

I prefer it for a girl, it doesn't sound strong or masculine imo

Pemba · 09/10/2018 13:48

But Olivias would normally be shortened to Livvy, not Ollie. Ollie just sounds quite masculine.

Cosmoa · 09/10/2018 14:17

My friend recently named her daughter Olivia but she also calls her Oli - spelt like that.

TatianaLarina · 09/10/2018 14:33

I like Olympia the most of the suggestions. Unless you live there.

Sunflower321 · 09/10/2018 17:47

I know a couple of Olivias nicknamed Ollie. Nothing masculine about it imo.

bridgetreilly · 09/10/2018 18:22

I know an Olly who is really Alrene. Not sure I actually recommend it though.

bridgetreilly · 09/10/2018 18:23

No, it's about equal I'd say, between Olly and Livvy.

cariadlet · 09/10/2018 18:37

I've never heard of Ollie or Olly for a girl - and I've been teaching for over 20 years so have come across hundreds of names. Sounds like a boy's name to me. I'm not keen on it for a girl - sorry.

Sunflower321 · 09/10/2018 18:40

It sounds like a perfectly normal nickname for Olivia and there's nothing masculine about it imo.

Ollie is nicer than Olly imo

Buxbaum · 09/10/2018 20:53

I wonder if this is regional. I’ve been teaching for fifteen years and have never met a female Ollie. I’ve taught lots of Olivias, only ever shortened to Liv / Livvy / Livia.
