Do you know any Hazel's??

I prefer DC's being the only one with their name in their classes (sorry to be one of them!Confused) it's just a personal preference.

I've really took a liking to the name Hazel but I've heard it numerous times in films, books etc. But I've never heard of one in real life.

So, do you know any? Do you think it's a fairly popular name? Do you like it/have any negative connotations? Grin

One in their 50s. I'm not keen - it seems frumpy/dated to me.

PuppyMonkey · 05/10/2018 10:31

I know an 11 yo hazel.

deptfordgirl · 05/10/2018 10:32

I know one in her 30s. It's nice and not popular at all.

My dd's middle name. I wasn't brave enough to give it as a first name dh wanted. I regret it to this day. She really suits Hazel (but has also grown into the name we did give her). Love it!

RavenWings · 06/10/2018 17:06

Yes I do, there are a couple in the school where I teach. I know two older ones (in their 50s/early 60s).

junebirthdaygirl · 06/10/2018 17:33

Only one l know is 26..beautiful girl. Love that name.

greendale17 · 06/10/2018 17:37

I know 3- 2yrs, 26yrs, 69yrs

bridgetreilly · 06/10/2018 18:31

Whatever name you choose, there's always a chance of another one in the same class.

CallMeRachel · 06/10/2018 18:37

Yes unfortunately I know a Hazel.
She's 40 and a very unpleasant character.

However, I'm sure her selfish, odd personality is nothing to do with her name.

It does make me grit my teeth when I hear it though.

Tbf though bridget the chances of having another classmate with the same name as the child depend greatly on the name OP chooses.

Sophie/Sophia, Ava/Eva, Olivia - high chance there will be multiple kids of that name. If you name the kid Maureen or Debra, it's less likely.

Ta1kinpeace · 06/10/2018 21:08

My name was unique in my year
as was my daughters (in her 2000 per year college) but it was not "weird"
names are as is

Anasnake · 06/10/2018 21:12

Hazel Ra from Watership Down, my favourite book.

yellowplumpreserves · 06/10/2018 21:14

Yes, one who is in her 50s, one in her 49s and one who is 8.

yellowplumpreserves · 06/10/2018 21:14

All very nice Hazels, I should add.

BigGlasses · 06/10/2018 23:24

I know quite a few ( in Scotland). I think it isn’t a great name hence I chose it for dd
Dd, 10, lovely obviously
45 year old teacher, really really lovely
40 year, also a teacher, also lovely
55 year old tennis coach also lovely
I’m sure there is more but can’t think of them at the moment

BigGlasses · 06/10/2018 23:26

Oops, Is a great name ! Not isn’t. Why would I name dd it if it wasn’t a great name Hmm

ribblerobble · 07/10/2018 07:23

I know three Hazels in very different generations and always thought it a lovely name - but it's one that pops up periodically enough to be unsure no other kid would have the same name.

Trinnidad · 07/10/2018 22:22

It used to be really popular in Scotland. I’ve known loads - I knew a Hazel whose best friend at school was called Holly. We used to call them the tree people, affectionately!

littlegecko · 07/10/2018 22:24

I know a Hazel in her late thirties and one who is mid-fifties.

I rather like the name - it does remind me of Watership Down though !

Cosmoa · 07/10/2018 22:35

Few elderly Hazel's.. That's it

brads88 · 07/10/2018 22:39

I'm a Hazel! I've met one or two others in my lifetime (I'm 30) but it isn't a popular name at all, although not so uncommon people don't know how to spell it. I've only met one toddler named Hazel too.

I liked the fact that there weren't multiple girls with my name at school/ growing up. The only person who I've met who doesn't seem to like it is my husband (he calls me "Haze")...!Confused

susurration · 07/10/2018 22:42

My lovely niece who is three.

BigGapMum · 07/10/2018 22:43

Two elderly ladies and a five year old. Lovely name.
