Zander - ok if short for Alexander
Zeus - no no no

Girls-
Amitie - like this
Athena - no
Elvie- no
Fifer - no
Florence - boring

maxiflump1 · 03/10/2018 20:23

I'm sorry but I don't like any of your boys names! At a push Tate is ok (Zeus is awful!: what a reputation to live up to!)

Re the girls I like Florence and Athena best.

Cheeseplantandpickle · 03/10/2018 20:24

Zander and Athens.

DramaAlpaca · 03/10/2018 20:25

I really don't think you'd like my honest opinions so I'm going to keep quiet.

All I will say is that Florence is a beautiful name.

LeeMiller · 03/10/2018 20:28

Zander (or Xander) is the best of the boys names, ideally short for Alexander. Zeus is a lot to live up to!

Florence is nice, Athena is fine, the others sound like nicknames, not names for an adult.

beachbodyunready · 03/10/2018 20:28

Sorry but every one of your boys names is awful, of the girls I'd only consider Florence - sorry Grin

donkey86 · 03/10/2018 20:28

Seeing as you asked for honest opinions: :)

Boys-
Errol - I like this
Humphrey - old fashioned, but ok
Lockie - is that a name?
Tate - and Lyle?
Zander - I like this, but I’d use Alexander and have Zander as a nickname
Zeus - a name like that is a lot to live up to!

Girls-
Amitie - like Amity horror? Avoid
Athena - I like this, though it does make me think of the shop
Elvie - sounds like it’s short for something
Fifer - from Fife?
Florence - nice
Jolie - like Angelina? No.
Nellie - great as a nickname but not in its own right

17caterpillars1mouse · 03/10/2018 20:29

Boys-
Errol - I really like this. It was on my long list
Humphrey - love but wouldn't do it to a child. I think it would make the teenage years very difficult for him
Lockie - ok as a nn for Lachlan but not as a full name
Tate - dislike
Zander - I like this and this spelling
Zeus - no. Feels similar to calling your child Hulk. It's a lot to live up to

Girls-
Amitie - dislike
Athena - nice strong name just not my style
Elvie - cute as a nn for something? Though will probably get mixed up with Evie all the time
Fifer - sorry I think it's awful and sounds a bit like fifa
Florence - pretty just very popular in my area
Jolie - Angelina
Nellie - nice as a nickname

whatausername · 03/10/2018 20:29

Amityville Horror

babblebot · 03/10/2018 20:31

Thank you everyone!! genuinely appreciate the honest opinions as there's a few I wasn't 100% about and you've confirmed that they're definitely too OTT! Blush

OP posts:
sexnotgender · 03/10/2018 20:31

Pretty much all hideous except Florence!

Amitie? Like Amityville horror?

Jessiemay88 · 03/10/2018 20:31

Zander tate nellie and athena i think are favs from the list

whatausername · 03/10/2018 20:32

And Fifer? As in someone from Fife in Scotland? As alright as some parts of Fife are, it is not an area I'd choose to honour. Just wait until she hears her name said in Fife accent Grin

Athena and Florence are okay enough out of your list but that's about all I can say.

Thebluedog · 03/10/2018 20:33

Florence is the only one I’d pick. Don’t like any of the others for the girls or the boys

whatausername · 03/10/2018 20:33

Okay my last post sounds harsh. Zander, Tate, Florence and Athena are fine if they're your style SmileSmile

Shazafied · 03/10/2018 20:33

Lachlan is nice , lockie for short x

Miltonkeynesmummy · 03/10/2018 20:35

Agree with Lachlan and lockie for short and Nellie for a girl.

Eleanor90 · 03/10/2018 20:36

I love Fifer! Athena and Florence also nice.

Not keen on your boys I’m afraid, but at a push Xander (Zander is a fish) or Tate.

Bridgetwithoutthejones · 03/10/2018 20:37

Boys-
Errol- No
Humphrey- very wet
Lockie- really? Grin
Tate- not a fan but not awful
Zander- same as Tate. Would prefer Alexander with nn Xander
Zeus- poor boy, would be a lot to live up to

Girls-
Amitie- am probably being dim but my brain went ??? at how to say this
Athena- not a fan but perfectly fine name
Elvie- don’t like but do like Effie

Fifer- no
Florence- okay
Jolie- no
Nellie- wet

Sorry! I think we just have different tastes

Thewolvesarerunningagain · 03/10/2018 20:39

Of your list Xander is a good name. Lockie would work better as either Locke or maybe the Scottish Lachlan? Athena is fine, and although Nellie isn’t great Nell is nice. If you like Athena might Minerva, Juno, or Helena work for you?

Armchairanarchist · 03/10/2018 20:40

I'd only use Xander if spelt with an X.

Frustratedboarder · 03/10/2018 20:40

Boys names - Tate and Zander, others are really dubious (although maybe Lachie as abbreviation of Lachlan)!!
Girls - Athena is the only one is consider ok, but only ok....
You did ask!! Grin
don't ask Me My kids names you'd definitely all Hate and Slate them!!

LovelyGirlNOT · 03/10/2018 20:41

Boys-
Errol - Yuck!
Humphrey - Eurgh!
Lockie - Eh?
Tate - It's ok, but not in love with it
Zander - The nicest on your list
Zeus - Please don't, poor kid will be taunted forever

Girls-
Amitie - Ugly & harsh sounding
Athena - Sounds a bit pretentious, dahhhling!
Elvie - Bleurgh!
Fifer - Sounds like a name you'd give to a dog
Florence - nice, but will be shortened to Flo, which is hideous
Jolie - The nicest on your list
Nellie - horrid

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 03/10/2018 20:42

Boys-
Errol - I quite like this
Humphrey - not dreadful
Lockie - OK if short for Lochlan
Tate - nope
Zander - 'Xander' for Alexander is OK
Zeus - just no. Please no.

Girls-
Amitie - ville horror
Athena - 80's posters
Elvie - no
Fifer - not a name
Florence - pleasant enough
Jolie - Angelina
Nellie - Nell is better

wildewillow · 03/10/2018 20:46

Errol - No
Humphrey - No.
Lockie - No. predictive text said Locker.

Tate - ok
Zander - No. spell it Xander.
Zeus - are you having a laugh? No!

Amitie - ville horror
Athena - nice
Elvie - No. You're naming a child not a fairy.
Fifer - No. How about £5?
Florence - lovely

Jolie - nice
Nellie - the elephant. Ok as a nn for Helen/Helena etc
