DS is due very soon, and we're struggling to narrow our shortlist. Would love your opinions please:

Albert
Angus
Arthur
Alistair
Jasper
Magnus
Lucas
Stanley
Walter

Other names we like but can't use, for various reasons, include:
Frederick
Theodore (Teddy)
Percy
Wilfred
Henry
Harry
Edward

DD's name is fairly classic yet unusual, beginning with F. Ideally the name needs to work and be easily spelled / pronounced in UK, US and Australia (although almost anything goes in US!).

Open to fresh ideas too. Thank you!!!

Arthur. Or failing that Albert. Not keen on any of the other names on your shortlist, although I love almost all of your ‘can’t use’ list.

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 03/10/2018 04:08

I really like all your names, OP, except one. Personally, I really wouldn't use Walter.

Good luck 🍀

MrsFoxPlus4 · 03/10/2018 04:12

Stanley is my favourite

starkid · 03/10/2018 04:14

I like Alistair, Jasper and Lucas :)

Pidgythe2nd · 03/10/2018 04:15

Angus is my favourite.
A lot of the other names are very popular (or pretentious..sorry!)

FlyingMonkeys · 03/10/2018 04:49

Tossing into the ring; Donald, Duncan, Callum, Adair.

Modestandatinybitsexy · 03/10/2018 04:54

Similar to your like but can't have list:
Edwin
Alfred

From your top list I like Arthur.

Thistles24 · 03/10/2018 04:58

Alistair (though I’d spell it Alasdair), Angus then Magnus.

ShackUp · 03/10/2018 05:45

I've got a Freddie (Alfred) and Bertie (Albert) - they get lots of compliments on their names!

HJL2506 · 03/10/2018 05:51

Stanley 💙

Rainbowqueeen · 03/10/2018 05:56

ADore Angus

It also works well in Australia along with Jasper Lucas and Arthur.

Albert really doesn’t work in Australia.

Polkasq · 03/10/2018 06:00

I like Alistair, Jasper and Walter.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 03/10/2018 06:23

Sidney

I like Angus best.

17caterpillars1mouse · 03/10/2018 07:13

I really like Alistair though like a pp I prefer Alasdair, it looks more handsome

Sophronia · 03/10/2018 07:21

Magnus

tartanscot · 03/10/2018 08:31

Albert - it's okay. I prefer Albie or Albus though.
Angus - I quite like this.
Arthur - lovely name but going through a bit of a fad now.
Alistair - I really like this, I'd probably spell it Alastair though.
Jasper - it's okay.
Magnus - I really like this.
Lucas - FAR too overused IMO.
Stanley & Walter - Both feel very outdated and not very to make a comeback.

Shadow1234 · 03/10/2018 09:31

Lucas or Arthur.

Icklepup · 03/10/2018 13:45

Magnus is lovely!

Foodylicious · 03/10/2018 13:47

I prefer Alastair to Alistair

Not on your list, but how about Tristan?

Sunflower321 · 03/10/2018 13:53

Alistair and Magnus are nice. Or how about Quentin or Raphael?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 03/10/2018 14:16

I like Angus and Alistair.
How about Victor or Cedric ?

ReginaPhalange89 · 03/10/2018 14:36

Love love love Angus !

The only other from the list I like is Lucas . But Angus wins by a mile

bridgetreilly · 03/10/2018 14:54

Angus is my favourite too, with nn Gus. I also really like Jasper and quite like Alistair and Magnus.

LittleFilly · 03/10/2018 15:57

Thanks ladies. This is enormously helpful! It's often the ones you don't expect that people end up liking...
Our DD's name was a bit of a Marmite one, and I don't mind that really. It just suits her!

Rainbowqueeen - curious to know why Albert doesn't work in Australia (forgive my ignorance Blush!)...

Good to get all your views and thanks for the fresh suggestions, ladies!
