Would you consider this a girls name or is too associates with topsy and Tim? Grin

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I think pregnancy hormones send people bonkers. Especially on Mumsnet.

KnockMeDown · 28/09/2018 06:44

I have a Topsy!

Oh, wait, it's the cat, but she thinks she's human......

I always thought Titty from Swallows and Amazons was a shortening of Matilda for some reason (obviously usually Tilly, but my brain linked Titty to Matilda). I looked it up when I read it to my kids though, and apparently the real Titty disliked her given name and named herself after a character from the macarbe little fairy tale Titty mouse and Tatty mouse - in which everyone/ everything dies...

Topsy is a terrible name too OP, for all the reasons already given.

Stringofpearls · 28/09/2018 07:00

An old Aunt of mine used to have a dog called Topsy, I'm really not sure about it for a human.

BellMcEnd · 28/09/2018 07:02

Oh dear God no. Are you good at wememberwing?

I know an Asian lady with the name Topsira. It always makes me think of Topsy.

sadnessin · 28/09/2018 07:12

Omfg. Seriously?

tlove · 28/09/2018 08:51

As in topsy turvy?

Clawdy · 28/09/2018 09:39

If you google "Topsy in Uncle Tom's Cabin " and look at the images, most of them are horrifically racist stereotypes. And I'm pretty sure that's how the name originated.

FailingAt40 · 28/09/2018 09:46

No. It's not a girls name. It's a pets name, at best. Possibly a rabbit or Guinea Pig.

Why oh why do people think up these nonsensical 'names'?!

Would you like to be called Topsy!???? Bloody hell.

QueenOfMyWorld · 28/09/2018 09:57

God no

Polkasq · 28/09/2018 10:02

It's ridiculously twee and affected.

Not a fan of it personally, but Tansy is another option that you might like instead?

LeeMiller · 28/09/2018 17:13

It's a rabbit's name.

cantfindamoniker · 28/09/2018 17:48

OP hasn't come back so maybe we should just leave the responses for now?

ApolloandDaphne · 28/09/2018 17:50

My friend had a cat called Topsy it is not a name for a child.

Glumglowworm · 28/09/2018 20:01

Its not that it’s a name from a popular children’s book series and tv show

It’s that that is the only time anyone has ever heard it

Don’t do it

bookworm14 · 28/09/2018 20:41

Oh good Lord no.
