Bloody awful.

Can't stand that stupid programme either!

whymewhyme · 27/09/2018 23:26

Oh god noooooooooooo

Knittedfairies · 27/09/2018 23:32

No, no,no.

maddjess · 27/09/2018 23:37

That's just really cruel

DelilahandDaisy · 27/09/2018 23:39

What about Tansy? It’s Topsy’s (and Tim’s) little sister. And much cuter.

NonaGrey · 27/09/2018 23:42

No.

LondonLassInTheCountry · 27/09/2018 23:43

Automatically think Tim. Sorry

NarcolepticOuchMouse · 27/09/2018 23:43

It's a great name for a rabbit 🐰

AfterSchoolWorry · 27/09/2018 23:48

Don't even joke.

cariadlet · 27/09/2018 23:52

I think Topsy is cute for a baby or toddler, but names last a life time. It would seem odd for a teenager let alone an adult woman.

SingaSong12 · 27/09/2018 23:57

I'd associate with Tim or "growing like". Not a parent but if Topsy and Tim is still going please don't. I found them an incredibly annoying pair.

Monkeychops13 · 28/09/2018 00:01

Going to buck the trend and say I love it! Always have and so what if it’s associated with Topsy and Tim - classic children’s series, the books have been around for years so don’t think of it as something from CBeebies! If it really worries you why not go for it as a middle name with something more traditional as a first name the child can use if they like when older if they want to, I think it’s great though and would love a Topsy.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 28/09/2018 00:26

In my family it's just used for whichever little girl you're with — so I see it more like tilly-flop or cherub rather than a 'proper' name.

It's also quite a nice instrumental by the Benny Goodman band, I presume written for a Topsy originally.

BumDisease · 28/09/2018 00:38

No.

Decanter · 28/09/2018 00:39

Lovely as a nickname. For Autopsy HmmGrin

Bouledeneige · 28/09/2018 00:51

Dear me no.

How about Titty - from Swallows and Amazons?

newroundhere · 28/09/2018 01:01

What was it a nickname for Hellywelly10?

Choccywoccyhooha · 28/09/2018 01:23

I'm going to go against the grain and say I love it. Yes, it will always have the Topsy and Tim association, but having a name from a children's book is no bad thing. Having grown up with the books in the 80s it never occured to me that Topsy was anything other than a perfectly good name.
Do it.

OkPedro · 28/09/2018 01:41

Oh shat up

ConsiderHerWaysAndOthers · 28/09/2018 01:48

Well it was my childhood nickname, my dad still occasionally calls me Topsy. But it’s not anything close to my real name which is normal and traditional. I think it’s ridiculous as a name in its own right.

glagdy · 28/09/2018 01:49

I know a 60 year old Topsy and she's a stuck up thunder cunt.

viques · 28/09/2018 01:54

Do it, but I would spell it TopC because you dont want to be the same as all the others who will copy you for thinking of such a cute name for your poor child to have to bear for the next 80 something years.

Headteacher, Topsy X.......

Baroness Topsy of Toyland , chair of the Select Commitee

moredoll · 28/09/2018 04:01

No.

ComtessedeLancret · 28/09/2018 04:03

I wouldn’t think of it as a stand alone name no. It was my Nan’s nickname however her name was Eileen

Hellywelly10 · 28/09/2018 06:35

Her name was rose. It wasnt short for anything. The topsy reference related to the slave in uncle toms cabin as she has tight curley afro ish hair (this was the 1920's).
