Onyx or Opal

I really like both these names for girls-
Opinions on both? Which one sounds better?

There is of course a female character called Oryx in Atwood's Oryx and Crake.

They are both really horrible names. If you’re really dead set on a stone, what’s wrong with Ruby?

I think my tastes differ from most on here - I love both and it's nice to hear something a bit different. Opal is 'prettier' but it depends if that matters to you.

I think they both sound like types of Vauxhall car - sorry!

Pearl is popular enough, and Opal isn't that different. Onyx though is not good.

I don't like either, but opals are traditionally very unlucky so please don't choose that one if it has to be one or the other!

My grandmother and I both have October birthdays (opal is the birthstone for October) she left me her opal jewellery so it's special to me. Whether unlucky is hard to judge!
