What could Hal be short for? And other names like it?

A pregnant friend of mine likes the name Hal as an nn but is looking for a longer bc name. Apart from Henry, Harold or the more unusual Hallam, can you think of anything?
And they're not 100% set on Hal, so any similar suggestions would be very welcome! Thanks.

Sorry, I should have specified it's for a boy. Suggestions so far are great, thanks. Any ideas for similar type names? Short and masculine-sounding, a bit unusual?

Another trad nn is Kit for Christopher or Kitchener.
Drew nn for Andrew

ItscalledaVulva · 10/09/2018 21:05

Sounds like Halitosis (bad breath)

mikado1 · 10/09/2018 21:23

I loved Cal (name in its own right I think) but we didn't go with it in the end. Still think it's a great name.

Vince has similar vibes to Hal imo.

PassportBridgetPants · 11/09/2018 08:55

I like Halwyn / Halwin for a boy. It's on our list.

mintich · 11/09/2018 08:57

I knew a Hallam once and always loved the name

auntyflonono · 11/09/2018 09:07

Changedmynametoolikeyou · 11/09/2018 10:05

Automatically I’d think Harold.

bringbackfonzi · 11/09/2018 10:32

I love Cal, Sol, Vince and Halwyn - I will pass those on! Maybe not Halitosis though.
