What could Hal be short for? And other names like it?

A pregnant friend of mine likes the name Hal as an nn but is looking for a longer bc name. Apart from Henry, Harold or the more unusual Hallam, can you think of anything?
And they're not 100% set on Hal, so any similar suggestions would be very welcome! Thanks.

My cousin is called Harley. Great name for a guy, IMO.
Hal for short.

I think Ned is a similar vibe to Hal. ( and yes, I know Scots have other issues with Ned) which opens up the Ed- names, Edward, Edwin, Edmund and Edgar.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Jonty too. Nn for Jonathan

I have a friend with Ned, not short for Edward. Just christened Ned. I think your friend could get away with Hall. I also know with the following names on their birth certificates - Sam, Ben, Drew, Ted, and Max.

I'm a big fan of just having the abbreviated name instead of the full name.

Hal is a diminutive for Henry. Can't believe anyone doesn't know that! Flipping heck, we all did Literature at school and Henry Vlll was frequently called "Prince Hal".
