Is Joseph a bit dull/boring?

Hi, we had sort of decided on Joseph for our DS due in next few weeks. We don’t mind if it gets shortened to Joe as like that too! However, I’m now having some second thoughts, a friend said she thought it was a bit dull and there are lots of Josephs/Joes. I do know quite a few older men with the name but few children. There are none in my other DS’s class or our wider circle of friends. We do like Oliver and Tom too but they’re very popular around our area. Would be interested in your honest opinions before we choose. Is Joseph a bit ‘meh’?

It will probably be shortened to joe - which is a lovely name

Sarahandduck18 · 08/09/2018 20:24

I prefer

Jose
Jesse
Jonah
Jordy
Jerry

I find Joe a bit dull but like the name Joseph very much. I'd like it much better in the full version or with a nicer abbreviation.

Great name 👍

RainbowsAndUnicorns23 · 09/09/2018 15:25

I really like the name Joseph! Could also be shortened to Joey!

Alyx80 · 09/09/2018 15:30

Yes it’s a bit boring, there’s 3 in one of my children’s class and 2 in the other.

LeeMiller · 09/09/2018 17:53

Beautiful, classic, classless. Works well internationally. Won't date like lots of other names.

areyoubeingserviced · 09/09/2018 17:54

Solid ,classic name
I love it

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 09/09/2018 18:44

Joseph is a great name !

pumpkinyael · 09/09/2018 19:09

It's not particularly dull but I personally just don't like it... Joe is nice nickname.

I also like Jonah.

TheFormidableMrsC · 09/09/2018 19:15

I have a Joseph! It's a lovely name..timeless too! It suited him from the moment he was born. I don't shorten but I have noticed some of his friends from school have started calling him Joe. He's 7 now.

cafcesque · 09/09/2018 19:27

My nephew is Joseph we love it and also call him jojo (he's 5). Joseph will suit him whatever age he is.

GingerCatBigBalls · 09/09/2018 19:36

Great name

HairyToity · 09/09/2018 21:27

Love the name Joseph. DS would have been Joseph, but my husband's best friend had a son called Joseph first.

itssquidstella · 09/09/2018 21:31

Dull dull dull

DappledThings · 09/09/2018 21:35

Love it. DD would have been one. I was worried it might be a bit themey because my due date was Xmas Day bit we would still have gone for it!

Faster · 09/09/2018 21:37

I have one. A baby one. Don’t know if any other baby Josephs.

Biased opinion as I have a Joseph, love it. He loves it too. Is shortened to Joe, never called Joey.

DollyDayScream · 09/09/2018 21:47

You should ask people to adds what they consider to be a good name.

For example, perhaps someone might not like Joseph but might like names such as Jayden, Conner and Mikey, all of which are fine but might not appeal to you?

Picknickers · 09/09/2018 22:28

My eldest brother is Joseph/Joe. Mum was told it was a funny old fashioned name and 3 years later there were lots more! I love it and would consider it but he's be very big headed. He's cool and clever and hilarious.

LeeMiller · 09/09/2018 22:39

Joseph feels similar to Oliver and Tom (and James, Edward, George etc) so I'm guessing your taste is just pretty classic - maybe that's your friend's idea of "dull".

JammyGeorge · 09/09/2018 22:41

Love Joseph

Sunflower321 · 10/09/2018 07:08

I find Joseph and especially Joe quite dull. It reminds me of Joe Blogs.

OpenThatTrapDoor · 10/09/2018 07:17

It’s a great name, one of the top ones on my list if this one is a boy.
