Baby boy is 11 days old now and we really want to name him!! I've posted before but still can't decide! We like what I guess you could call 'posh' our 'old' names so anymore ideas/opinions on the 3 front runners so far would be good!

Arthur (DHs favourite- I'm not too keen on Art or Artie!)
Freddy
Wilfred (my favourite)

Arthur is my favourite from your list, it doesn't have to be shortened.
Arthur Frederick.

sleepismysuperpower1 · 05/09/2018 18:12

oh freddie is so sweet. similar to that, what about edward, which you shorten to teddy? all the best x

dancingunicorns123 · 05/09/2018 18:16

@Sugarpiehoneyeye DH mentioned it to my MIL and as soon as she heard Arthur she said "oh I love Artie" 😩 won't be able to stop everyone!

@sleepismysuperpower1 thank you but a friend has just called her little one Edwards (Teddy) unfortunately x

I like Arthur

kenandbarbie · 05/09/2018 18:18

Arthur or Frederick

Cheeseplantandpickle · 05/09/2018 18:18

Mil might say Artie, but no one else will I’m sure.
I prefer Wildred, less popular.

Cheeseplantandpickle · 05/09/2018 18:19

And Wilfred can be Freddie.

abbie7 · 05/09/2018 18:19

Arthur and Freddy are both cute - I really like the name Artie but it's your baby, it doesn't have to be shortened Smile

Eeeeek2 · 05/09/2018 18:19

Arther is lovely but if family would insist on a shortening you don't like I wouldn't.

Freddy is a nickname to me

Wilfred is good and you could use fred/Freddy as a nickname

BasinHaircut · 05/09/2018 18:20

Arthur not great in all accents. Pronounced with an F where I live which sounds terrible IMO.

I’d go with Wilfred out of that list and you can still use Freddy as nn so keeps your options open. I also love Wilf

SmartestGiant · 05/09/2018 18:21

I like all your names. Have you considered:

Stanley
Alfred
Albert
Hubert
George

sonlypuppyfat · 05/09/2018 18:22

I think John is a beautiful classic name. I think old man names will soon date, and be like the Garys and Darrens of my youth

beckslovestimmy · 05/09/2018 18:23

We struggled to decide for ages, finally settled on Benjamin. We also liked/considered Samuel, Patrick and Alec.

sonlypuppyfat · 05/09/2018 18:25

Benjamin is really lovely

sleepismysuperpower1 · 05/09/2018 18:31

here are some suggestions x

Emory- meaning Home Strength
Leo- brave as a lion
Theodore- gift of the gods
Ellery- alder tree
Fletcher- one who works to make arrows
Jasper- bearer of treasure

Applesandoranges1 · 05/09/2018 18:33

I like Wilfred. It can be shortened to:

Wilf (my fave)
Fred
Freddy
Will

sleepismysuperpower1 · 05/09/2018 18:33

Nathaniel (nattie when younger, nate when older)
Louis (Lou as a nickname)
Ethan
Jackson

clevername · 05/09/2018 18:34

My DS is Wilfred Arthur! We clearly have the same taste. I love, love, love the name Wilfred - it's got so many shortening options (he's currently mainly Wilf or Wilfie but he could always go with Fred/dy or even Will if he fancies it when he's older). Wilfred gets my vote.

Be prepared for some negative reactions if you do choose it, though... Most seem to love it but it's clearly not to everyone's taste (the fools).

AdaColeman · 05/09/2018 18:37

Wilfred and Arthur are super, and Freddy is fine as a nn for Frederick.

I'd use your own favourite, Wilfred.

SimplyPut · 05/09/2018 18:41

I love Wilfred!

We have a Thomas and a nephew called James... no one has dared to shorten either!

moredoll · 05/09/2018 18:43

Jude

StayOutOfTheForrest · 05/09/2018 18:49

What about Edmund?

MinaPaws · 05/09/2018 18:50

What about Alfred? Then he can be Freddie or Alfie or Alf. I love Wilfred too. But I also love Arthur. Great names.

Mama1980 · 05/09/2018 19:03

I love Wilfred my favourite by miles.
