Honest opinions on Evan as boys name

Hi, Evan is number one on our list for our long awaited DS, due to arrive soon hopefully. Really interested in hearing some honest opinions as have had mixed reactions from our families. Have a few others that we like like Ben and Rory although they are more popular in our area and we know a few of each. I can see Evan is quite popular in some areas but not yet where we live. Would love to hear what others think of this name before we make our final decision.

I absolutely love it and will be adding it to my list. My only jiggle is even I think it's a bit girly and maybe a bit wet perhaps. I anticipate my DH vetoing it for those reasons but I still love it.

RJnomore1 · 01/09/2018 23:55

Love it

Evan dando

Can't think of any others

wizzler · 01/09/2018 23:57

Love it.

MrsSnootyPants2018 · 01/09/2018 23:57

My dad and his dad are Evan. It's a family name from our Welsh origins.

Redteapot67 · 02/09/2018 00:15

If im really really honest I think it’s sounds a little feminine. But I’m not welsh!
It is nice though. I personally would choose Ben but Evan a nice enough name so if you love it go for it! It’s only you that has to love it after all.

Redteapot67 · 02/09/2018 00:16

Have you considered max? I’d put that in the same category as Ben and Rory

DramaAlpaca · 02/09/2018 00:17

I love Evan. We have similar taste because I love Rory & Ben too. I absolutely do not see Evan as girly, not in the least.

PlatypusPie · 02/09/2018 00:18

I love it - but I do have Welsh heritage!

Serendipityme · 02/09/2018 00:21

I love it but then I'm biased as I have a teenage Evan. It suited him as a baby, as a toddler, as a young boy and now as a young man. Great, solid name. 😀

AornisHades · 02/09/2018 00:25

I like it. A friend's son is an Evan and we considered using it.

Sophronia · 02/09/2018 04:01

I like it

ReginaPhalange89 · 02/09/2018 04:02

I really like it, it's top of my list at the minute too! I don't know any others , don't think it's common here either

ReginaPhalange89 · 02/09/2018 04:03

Oooh it wasn't even in the top 100 in Scotland for 2017

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 02/09/2018 04:49

I find it weak and bland.

speakfriendandenter · 02/09/2018 05:07

There was a little boy called Evan in the US programme Brothers & Sisters. I really like the name.

PenelopeThePufferfish · 02/09/2018 08:01

I really dislike it! I put it in the slightly ‘wet’ camp, along with Gavin. Possibly not in a welsh accent though.

That said, it’s easy to spell and pronounce, so you won’t get any raised eyebrows. Could be a lot worse. Yooneek spellings etc are way worse.

wheezing · 02/09/2018 08:08

Love it.

VickieCherry · 02/09/2018 08:10

Love it. Evan Dando, is a great name.

VickieCherry · 02/09/2018 08:10

*it's!

Meltedicicle · 02/09/2018 08:12

Love it! I know one ten year old girl with that name and one 5 year old boy.

InezGraves · 02/09/2018 08:13

I find it a bit nothing-y, to be honest. An inoffensive, wallpaper kind of name. Nothing wrong with it, though.

CadetMahony · 02/09/2018 08:14

I love it. Always have

ICJump · 02/09/2018 08:15

Love it. It’s strong and classic.

bridgetreilly · 02/09/2018 08:36

It's not my favourite name but it's definitely not wet or girly. Weird.

PenelopeThePufferfish · 02/09/2018 08:41

Definitely not “girly”, but yes, I happen to find it rather wet and whiny sounding... It’s not weird to think that Hmm. Is anyone whose opinion is different to yours automatically weird then? Mature of you.
