People making me question names

I had chosen a name for my baby girl....Ellci which is a different spelling to Elsie... but everyone keeps pronouncing it as elki? And saying that if I chose that name she would always have people getting it wrong and spelling it wrong. Making me now question wether I've chosen the right name.

But that isn’t a book, that’s an open access site that allows people to add their own shit yoonique spellings.

Look, OP. Elsie is a very nice name. Ellci is 1. Not a name at all. 2. Dooming your child a lifetime of correcting people and 3. Makes it look like you can’t spell.

Hmmmmm sorry but unless there is a reason for an unusual, alternative spelling like Ellci, I do think it comes across as a bit silly and different-for-the-sake-of-being-different iyswim. Not classy and actually a little tacky (sorry).

Obviously, where there are two commonly accepted spellings like Claire and Clare it’s just personal choice and totally down to the parents.

Also, things like Kacper, Casper and Caspar, where different cultures have different spellings, it makes perfect sense to use your own country’s version.

But Ellci will, I think, come across as a bit Hmm. Then there’s the practicalities of her having to correct the spelling all the time. What a pain for her! I really wouldn’t.

Elsie is lovely

Ellci is ugly and ridiculous and doesn’t make sense

You’re naming a real human being who will have to live with her name until she’s old enough to change it forever. All the comments on here are what many people will think and a few will actually say to you and even her

My name is a pain there is only 7 people on Facebook with my spelling & it’s annoying to have to spell it out every time. Doesn’t make me feel special at all, I wished I had a more traditional name as it sounds like my parents were trying to hard to be different.

People are right your dd will be judged on the spelling of her name, it’s not nice but people do. I feel I have at times been judged and it’s not nice

OP, Elsie is a lovely name.

As you are already experiencing misprinounciations, imagine your Dd doing this throughout her life. If she is under one, change the spelling.

Awful. Why saddle the poor child with spelling like that? Just use the proper spelling?!

BlankTimes · 01/09/2018 12:06

Just spell it LC Wink

MikeUniformMike · 01/09/2018 12:53

Don't spell it Elsi unless you are in Wales.
Ellcie will be called Ellice (Ell-eece).
