Do you know any adult...

Barnaby's. In love with Barnaby but unsure if it will age well. Part of me worried it will be a difficult name to pull off as an adult but then part of me thinks with all the Alfie's, Archie's, Arthur's, Hugo's etc it will fit in just fine. Thoughts?

Does anybody know any older Barnaby's? How is it generally received?

I really like it.

Uncommon without being too unusual.

ReginaPhalange89 · 29/08/2018 17:41

I don't personally know any but I'm sure it would age fine along with all the other older names like you've said !

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 29/08/2018 17:41

I know a Barnaby who is now at university. Great name!

NonJeNeRegretteRien · 29/08/2018 17:42

Yes. V muscular and handsome

Petalflowers · 29/08/2018 17:43

Don’t know any adult or children, but good name.

However, people of a certain age will immediately think,of Barnaby The Bear, but that’s not a reason not to use it.

Barnaby the bear

ScreamingValenta · 29/08/2018 17:44

I don't know anyone of any age called Barnaby, but I loved Barnaby the Bear as a child ('never call me Jack or Jane' Grin )

Mumsturn4 · 29/08/2018 17:44

One in our nursery/primary out of around 500 children (he’s 9) so not common at all.
My DP has an extremely unusual name but the boy around the corner had it too!!

NonaGrey · 29/08/2018 17:46

I’ve known two adult Barnaby’s.

Both, as it happens, reminded me strongly of Boris Johnson so it’s safe to say I don’t have positive associations.

A now deceased Barnabas, born early 1900s. Lovely old gent.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 29/08/2018 17:50

I went to school with a Barnaby (Barny) who would now be 42. We've lost touch but he was wearing it well in his 20s, and It never occurred to me that the name wouldn't suit an adult?

AmyRhodes · 29/08/2018 17:51

I know a 20 year old called Barnaby. He goes by Barney and it really suits him. Great name.

Neolara · 29/08/2018 17:52

I know an absolutely lovely adult Barnaby. Still hate the name.

pallisers · 29/08/2018 17:58

friend dated one who would be in his 50s now - called Barney.

Lindy2 · 29/08/2018 17:59

I know a child called Barney. I prefer Barney to Barnaby, but both are nice.

LikeARedBalloon · 29/08/2018 18:06

I know of a late 40's Barnaby...suits him as an adult and he goes by the nickname Barns. I like it!

kenandbarbie · 29/08/2018 18:26

Yep I was at school with a bar any called Barney. Now he's an adult!!

littlemissalwaystired · 29/08/2018 18:29

I know a consultant named Barney. Works for him and passes the career test!

TroubledLichen · 29/08/2018 18:34

One from school. Not sure what he’s doing now but back then he was a massive stoner who failed most of his exams. Last I heard he was sacked from the bakery department of the local supermarket for stealing eating the stock. People called him Barney the Dinosaur at school. So not exactly positive associations and I don’t think I could use it myself but I do think it’s a nice sounding classic name.

Ploppymoodypants · 29/08/2018 18:36

Yes I do. He is always Barnanby and never ever ever Barney. He is about 40. Had a alternative upbringing with hippy parents who are lovely. As is he. A Very cool and kind human being.

CookieDoughKid · 29/08/2018 18:47

Love Barnaby. I know a top CEO called Barnaby he prefers to called Barne though.

PenelopeThePufferfish · 29/08/2018 19:29

I met a Barnaby a few years ago who was about 17. Only very briefly. He must now be about 21. He suited it fine as an older teen. So imagine it will suit him now too!

tinytemper66 · 29/08/2018 19:31

Barnaby the bear's my name; never call me Jack or James!

tinytemper66 · 29/08/2018 19:32

Jane!!!

WishUponAStar88 · 29/08/2018 19:33

I work with a Barnaby (Barney) he’s around 40 and wears the name well - very senior in his field so it hasn’t held him back!

sallysparrow157 · 29/08/2018 20:09

I know a consultant Barney too - wonder if littlemissalwaystired and I know the same one?! Lovely and very clever!
