If i like Mia or Ellie...

What other names might I like? We don’t know what we are having but we have already decided on a name for a boy. My first choice for a girl is Elizabeth (Lizzie) but DH isn’t keen, and Mia or Ellie are the only two so far that he likes. I just think they’re a bit ‘safe’? Our ds has quite an unusual name, one syllable beginning with J. (Not revealing his name as we haven’t announced the pregnancy irl yet).
Thanks in advance.

I'm following as I'm having twin girls in 7 weeks time and we've decided on Mia for one but can't decide/agree on a name for the other one to save our lives! 🙈😂

You could use Ellie as a diminutive for Elizabeth. Personally I'm quite confused by you deeming Ellie and Mia as safe, to me, Elizabeth is pretty much the epitome of safe. Anyway,

Jessica
Jennifer
Amy
Paige

Oooh I love Hebe. I’m using Elisabeth as a middle name. It is my sister’s middle name though spelt with a Z.

I agree with you - I think Mia and Ellie are, if not safe, a bit bland and slightly twee. Mia is better than Ellie. Elizabeth is a much stronger name. A shame your DH doesn't like it.

manicinsomniac · 27/08/2018 16:08

I know an Ellie who is Elizabeth - would your DH go for Elizabeth on the bc but known as Ellie. That would give your daughter loads of options for the future if she felt she was surrounded by too many Ellies.

I think you'd be fine with Ellie or Mia. I've taught dozens who will now be aged 8+ but I think their peak of popularity might be past.

For similar to Ellie and Mia but less 'safe' (by which I'm guessing you mean less popular?), how about:
Ali (Alexandra/Alicia) or Aria
Bronte or Bella
Connie (Constance) or Ciara
Delphi or Dana
Effie or Etta
Frankie (Francesca) or Faye
Gabby (Gabriella) or Gina
Hayley or Hana
Indie (India) or Ida
Josie (Josephine) or Jayla
Kiki or Kaia
Lindy or Livia
Marnie or Mala
Nancy or Nia
Polly or Pippa
Romy (Romilly) or Ria
Sadie or Siya
Tansy or Tia
Una
Vashti or Vita
Wendy or Willa
Xanthe or Xenia
Zoe or Zia

Thank you all for your replies - even the sarcastic ones... ‘Elizabeth is the safest name imaginable’...maybe where you’re from but certainly not where I’m from Hmm
I will read your suggestions to dh - I’m hoping he will warm to Lizzie if I drop it into conversation now and again haha!

I love Effie but dh hates it.
Wow @manicinsomniac that’s some list - thank you kindly.

All three names (Elizabeth, Mia, Ellie) are very safe imo. Nothing wrong with that at all, they're well known and no one will bat an eyelid. But definitely not out there or unusual.

RavenWings · 29/08/2018 00:55

Ellie could be short for something if you wanted to use a less popular option. Elara, Elena, Eleri, Elinor, Elishka, Elspeth...

MrsMarigold · 29/08/2018 01:48

Mila
