Hello

This is my first time on mumsnet so forgive me if I've got something wrong.
I've just found out I'm having a baby girl and I need name suggestions. We are hoping to decide quite soon as a lot of people are asking so they can get personalised gifts.
We definitely want to give her a middle name too so when she is an adult she's got another option.

We have made a list of our favourite names. Please can everyone tell me which are there favourite combinations and any other name suggestions that are similar to the ones we like.
1. Luna
2. Sky
3. Primrose
4. Daisy
5. Emmeline
6. Henriette
7. Fleur
8. Scarlet
9. Lottie
10. Polly
11. Lara
12. Laura
13. Lyra
14. Elke
15. Posy
16. Pansy
17. Clara
18. Levi
19. Lovi
20. Adaline
21. Alara
22. Elara
23. Rosalina
24. Leia
25. Adelaide

Thank you for all your help in advance. Grin

Love Fleur.
Hate Levi.

ChildofCastor · 22/08/2018 23:27

From your list, I like Polly and Posy. I love the names Juno and Ramona. This website's great for seeing trends if you're interested (I'm a complete name geek!), e.g. Luna's currently 78th most popular, Daisy 22nd, Adelaide 594th - names.darkgreener.com/#.

Luna - ok
Sky - I think this would make a nice middle name, but not as a first
Primrose - God no. Wet.
Daisy - toddler esque and nothing-y
Emmeline - ok
Henriette - no
Fleur - no
Scarlet - ok
Lottie - not by itself. Would be ok with Charlotte
Polly - parrot name
Lara/ Laura - much of a muchness here. Nice enough but nothing special.
Lyra - nice
Elke - this is beautiful
Posy, Pansy - no, both weak and insubstantial
Clara - no
Levi - no, boys name
Lovi - unfamiliar with this, but it just sounds like a pet name to me. Sweetheart/ darling/ lovey etc...no from me.
Alara - Elara is better
Elara - love it
Rosalina - nice but prefer Rosalind, Rosabelle, Rosalie, Rosa...
Leia - screams Star Wars fan. It's ok but it's very Leah esque so I'd leave it.
Adelaide/Adaline - not mad on either but love Adalind.

I'd choose Elara, Elke or Rosalina from your list. I'd probably add in Adalind and Rosalie myself. Anneliese?

Combinations:
Elke Henriette
Elara Henriette
Elke Adaline (or Adalind)
Elara Adaline (or Adalind)
Elke Giselle
Elara Giselle
Elara Gabrielle
Elara Emmeline
Elke Emmeline
Elke Susannah
Elke Rosalind (Rosalina is a bit too much imo)
Elke Vivienne
Elara Vivienne
Elara Sky
Elke Sky
Elara Bethany
Elara Jade
Elke Jade
Elke Pearl
Rosalina Pearl
Rosalina Sky
Rosalina Daisy (bit flowery?)
Rosalina Eden
Rosalina Ivy
Rosalina Marie
Rosalina Luna (although it runs together imo)

Rosalina is long so I would keep to a one or two syllable middle name if possible.

Thank you so much for spending so much time on this. I definitely think your right about sky as a middle name and a short middle name if you have a long first name.
Thank you again I can't believe how much effort you put into this.HaloHalo

Oh I love name combinations - I could have kept going all night! Grin Hopefully something in there is useful.

Ravenwings
I love Elke sky and elara emmeline.

I agree about primrose that want my choose.

Lovi means Jupiter on Latin. My partners dads middle name was Jupiter and they were very close. Maybe it could work as a middle name but I'm not sure what it will go with.Hmm

I love your list. Here are my opinions:

  1. Luna: lovely name, lovely meaning. To me it is a pretty name, but also a strong name. I do love the Hardy Potter association too. The name is getting really popular though, which puts me off a little.

  2. Sky: I like this name and it isn't very popular, yet it sounds trendy and modern.

  3. Primrose: Not a fan, it's weak and flimsy. Rose is a nice nickname for it. I think this name works well as a middle name.

4)Daisy: nice name becoming really popular. Not any nicknames for it though.

  1. Emmaline: love Emma but Emmaline just sounds made up. Also some people would pronounce it Emma-Leen, others Emma-Line.

  2. Like this name and Henry is a good nickname for it.

  3. Fluer: too weak and flimsy and girly. A bit plain and boring too. Works well as a middle name though.

  4. Scarlett: love this name. It's popular but not too popular, nor is it rising in popularity.

  5. Lottie: Not a fan of nickname names used as full names. I think go with Charlotte and have Lottie as a nickname.

  6. Polly: a nice, sweet name. Not too weak. It's unusual by not unheard of and easy to say and spell.

  7. Lara: a bit plain, but a nice name. Sounds more modern than Laura.

  8. Laura: not too popular anymore, but was REALLY popular 10-20 years ago. I like this name as it suits anyone.

  9. Lyra: too much like Lycra.

  10. Elke: like the moose type animal?

  11. posy: Awful. Too cutesy. Sounds like a small dog.

  12. Pansy: a bit flimsy again, and no nicknames.

  13. Clara: good, strong name. Works well as a middle name too.

  14. Levi: see this more on a boy, but I guess it could be unisex.

  15. Lovi: sounds totally made up.

  16. Adeline: Sounds made up too, also sounds like a brand!

  17. Alara: Nice, easy to say and spell and not popular. Good alternative to more popular Lara and Laura.

  18. Elara: nice name and can get Elle nicknames too.

  19. Rosalina: not a fan, but it's a full name and could fit anyone really.

  20. Leia: okay but pronunciation/ spelling issues. Do you want your child to have to spell out their name their whole life?

  21. Adelaide: lovely name. Lady, Adel, Elle are all good nicknames. It is a very grand name I feel. Also a nod towards one of my favourite cities in the world: Adelaide, Australia, very beautiful.

Sophronia · 23/08/2018 03:46

I like Lara, Emmeline, Clara and Adelaide

Peachbubble · 23/08/2018 07:52

Lovely list of names. My favourites are Daisy, Lottie (but would put Charlotte on bc), Polly, Posy, Clara and Elara. Prefer Rosalie to Rosalina.

userabcname · 23/08/2018 08:02

Love the name Luna! I also like Posy and Rosalina from your list.

RoseMartha · 23/08/2018 08:22

Luna Fleur
Rosalina Sky
Clara Adelaide
Florence Lara or Lyra

AtticaRose · 23/08/2018 08:24

Hi OP, just wanted to add that Lovi isn't Jupiter in Latin - you might have misread something. Iuppiter (capital i not capital L!) is one form, or Jove. Iovi (again, capital i!) would mean "for Jupiter".

If you want a female name connected to Jupiter, Juno or Minerva would be nice.

TatianaLarina · 23/08/2018 08:29

I like Luna, Polly and Posy, don’t like any of the others.

Posy is no more twee than all the ghastly Evie/Ellie/Indie/Lilas on here.

Much prefer Rosalie or Rosanna to Rosalina.

DollyDayScream · 23/08/2018 08:30

Emmeline Lara
Emmeline Clara
Clara Henriette

My thoughts

Luna - it's quite popular in my area for both toddlers and dogs.

Sky - I dislike as a first name, but would be nice in the middle

Primrose - love it. I met one and she was a lovely, quickly little thing

Daisy - quite popular and cutesy
Emmeline - lovely string name. I really like it
Henriette - i like Henrietta but think Henriette would get mistaken for Harriet

Fleur - lovely name. Only ever met 2. One is a strong willed 4 year old and the other a strong-willed 30 something year old

Scarlet - nice. I like this spelling better but most people will add an extra t

Lottie - ok as a nn but too cutsey used as a full name

Polly - nice, quirky. I also like Pollyanna

Lara - short and strong name

Laura - refreshinh
Lyra - nice enough just nit for me
Elke - Middle name?
Posy - only as a nn
Pansy - God no
Clara - pretty, becoming more popular
Levi - boys name
Lovi - not a fan
Adaline - pretty
Alara - nice enough just not my style
Elara - prettier
Rosalina - nice enough. I prefer Rosalind or Rosalin
Leia - dislike
Adelaide - beautiful and underused

A few combos:

Adelaide Scarlet
Primrose Elara
Emmeline Sky
Clara Elke

Flyingpigs247 · 23/08/2018 10:28

Luna - Not a fan personally.
Sky- It's OK but prefer Skyla.
Primrose - I quite like. It's different. Could be shortened to Primmy or Rosie.
Daisy - I really like. Very sweet and girlie.
Emmeline - Love this. Also like it shortened to Emmie.
Henrietta - I love this name. It can either be shortened to Hettie or Etta.
Fleur - It's OK. Never met one.
Scarlet - I prefer with "tt" at the end. I would shorten to Letty rather than Scar.
Lottie - I like either on it's own or short for Charlotte.
Polly - One of my favourites and was on my shortlist.
Lara - I quite like.
Laura - I like and would like to see it make a come back. I only know of one under 12.
Lyra - Different. I only know one.
Elke- I have also seen spelt Elkie but not sure if it's pronounced the same.
Posy - I quite like. Very cutsie.
Pansy - As above.
Clara - My all time favourite and the name I would choose if I had another girl.
Levi - I've only known boys called this.
Lovi - Not keen, sorry.
Adaline - Love this. I think I prefer the Adeline spelling though or even Edeline like one of the 12 Dancing Princesses.
Alara - I like.
Elara - Like this too. Also Elora.
Rosalina - Love this! Very pretty and different. I also like Rosalie and Rosanna.
Leia - I quite like.
Adelaide- Love this too.
