Wow that was a rant!GrinBrew

Also popular names are popular because they are nice.

Yes, and then these fashionable 'nice' names start to fall out of favour and sound dated. Sharon, Tracy, Kevin, Steve etc were all popular 'nice' names.

That's why I'd rather have a less fashionable name. I'd also rather not have to add my initials to my name.

pipilangstrumpf · 21/08/2018 15:26

And it has nothing at all to do with being 'original'. It's about having a look at all the wonderful normal names outside the top 100 most overused ones.

PinkAvocado · 21/08/2018 15:26

They’re 15th and 13th in the rankings so not that popular and ‘overused’.

I think Grace works better as an adult but I think I’d rather be a Poppy due to not being very graceful!

pipilangstrumpf · 21/08/2018 15:28

It might also be worth looking up their progression as I seem to remember Grace being quite high a few years ago, but I could be wrong

Cbeebiesrehab · 21/08/2018 15:36

But the point is pip why look outside the top 100 if you like one that isn’t? Just to be a ‘bit different’ isn’t it more important to pick a name you like? I get what you’re saying about not wanting to be ‘Thomas J’ all your life but you run the risk of that happening with names outside the top 100 too and then you would have picked a name you didn’t like as much as another for a reason that is no longer relevant.

pipilangstrumpf · 21/08/2018 17:03

But the risk is much smaller! And of course you have to find a name you love - either in or outside the top 100!

kenandbarbie · 21/08/2018 21:12

I think they are both too 'of their time' ie popular at the moment

foxtiger · 27/08/2018 17:04

I like both but I think Grace will sound better on an adult.
