Sorry 'dull and overused'

Dani18 · 20/08/2018 21:36

I prefer Grace. X

RavenWings · 20/08/2018 21:37

Both dull and overdone, but I prefer Grace. Poppy is weak sounding.

Bella898 · 20/08/2018 21:39

Grace is much better longterm. Poppy is really cute as a little kid, not so much for an adult

ButterflyOfFreedom · 20/08/2018 21:39

Grace

BackforGood · 20/08/2018 21:45

Don't like Poppy. I associate it with being a pet's name, not a person's.

twoundertwo54321 · 20/08/2018 21:47

Both gorgeous.

Strokethefurrywall · 20/08/2018 21:59

Grace. It's a classic (if overused these days) and Grace Kelly is the epitome of class.
Poppy is totally of the moment and I dislike flower names generally as I find them a bit wet, so Grace is always the winner for me.

mostdays · 20/08/2018 22:00

Poppy.

DramaAlpaca · 20/08/2018 22:02

Of the two, Grace. It's not my favourite name but it's heaps better than the twee, cutesy, babyish Poppy.

hidengosqueak · 20/08/2018 22:17

Wow there is a reason not to click on a thread when your own daughter's name is one of the choices !
I have a Poppy and she really suits her name, strong and vibrate young woman that she is. However she was given Suzanne as a second name should she decide she didn't like it as she became adult. 27 now and still a Poppy.

Quangot · 20/08/2018 22:29

Poppy

userblablabla · 20/08/2018 22:30

Groppy

MikeUniformMike · 20/08/2018 23:06

Poppy

Jukla · 21/08/2018 04:22

@30hours - of course I can. I can think of lots of names that are only given to 5 people a year, does it mean I like them? Absolutely not.

Movablefeast · 21/08/2018 04:33

We are drowning in Grace's in our neck of the woods, there are literally about 8 in my dds school year.

Poppy is nice but hard to imagine on a professional woman.

FlyingMonkeys · 21/08/2018 04:39

Grace is lovely and yes very popular but Poppy is a bit twee. Petunia and Voilet are much nicer flowery names (please don't use Daffodil as offered on a previous thread 😐).

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 21/08/2018 05:59

Petunia???

For flower names, how about Iris?

Joeybee · 21/08/2018 06:21

I prefer Grace. It is more versatile, less girly. I think it suits a baby, girl and woman. Poppy is a bit too cutesy, is anyone going to take a Poppy seriously? Plus Poppy is becoming pretty trendy atm, which means it is at risk of becoming really dated in a few years.

pipilangstrumpf · 21/08/2018 13:37

Grace has also been very trendy recently (might be worth looking up on ons lists) so will probably start to sound dated as it falls out of fashion.

Personally I'd choose a more timeless classic name that isn't so popular.

Holymolynowayimagreeingwiththa · 21/08/2018 13:43

Both names are very pretty. You can't go wrong.

I would rather be called Grace if I had to choose as an adult so I would probably go for Grace. But I do love Poppy.

NadiaLeon · 21/08/2018 13:44

What do you prefer OP? After all, it's your decision and baby...

Holymolynowayimagreeingwiththa · 21/08/2018 13:44

Also popular names are popular because they are nice. Unpopular names are rare for a reason.

NadiaLeon · 21/08/2018 13:56

I'm not sure if Brian or Alan were ever nice, but they were certainly popular.
Same for Tracy and Sharon.

Cbeebiesrehab · 21/08/2018 14:09

Ok, so Grace is currently ranked 15th and Poppy 13th so she would be very unluckily to be one of ‘multiple’ in her class. Yes, they are popular, but what some posters fail to realise is that unusual names are not for everyone. Also, so many people are trying to be ‘original’ nowadays it’s starting to backfire! I had a mother in baby group boasting about how ‘unusual’ her wonderful daughters name is only to have another mother rock up half an hour later with a child with the same name. Her face was a picture. Your little Persephone could be one of two in her class yet there could only be one Emily! Just go with what you like and don’t focus on all the ‘oh couldn’t you think of anything more interesting eye roll’ crap!
FWIW I prefer Grace.
