We’ve got two girls and are so lucky to be having a boy....we’ve picked Xander! Anyone else have a Xander? What do you shorten it too? Thinking Bobby for a middle name xx

Bobby for xander? Please god no

30hours · 20/08/2018 13:46

Jaxx is even worse. Gah.

30hours · 20/08/2018 13:47

Judge Jaxx.

DR Jaxx.

JLG19 · 20/08/2018 13:59

If you're a nice person, OP, maybe don't show your best friend the comments about her son's chosen name. I agree with PP, the names Jax and Jaxx do suggest young, uneducated parents.

I'm not a fan of Xander personally, but I like Bobby. Maybe use that as a first name?

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 20/08/2018 14:01

Jaxx is just awful and suggests uneducated parents

^ x1000! 😂

LucyLou19 · 20/08/2018 14:02

Our surname is Brown 😤so we can’t have Bobby Brown,we’ve decided on Xander it’s the only name we can agree on 😂 I don’t think I will show her the comments regarding her sons name,it actually really suits him xx

Xander is only a name on its own because people have started using it as such. It's short for Alexander.

LittleYellowLifejacket · 20/08/2018 14:15

We have an Xander but it's short for Alexander in our case.

What about Xavier?

Jaxx just sounds like Jack but "unique"

CaptainCucumber · 20/08/2018 14:16

Littleyellow - I think you mean ‘yoonique’, much less old fashioned Grin

Nutkins24 · 20/08/2018 14:19

I think it’s weird to have two shortened versions of names for 1st and middle. It’s a bit like being called Billy bobby.

SaoirseTheSeahorse · 20/08/2018 14:28

I know one. It’s short for Alexander in his case. It doesn’t get shortened as it’s already a shortening. I dislike it personally, but it’s fine.

Jaxx is just dreadful imho. Though, I’ve seen it on here a few times now, so maybe it’s common enough for it to go without comment in the next few years.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 20/08/2018 15:36

Xander Jack is great. I don't like Jack or Bobby.

Jollyholliday · 20/08/2018 16:34

I think Xander Brown sounds very educated!
I would assume though if I met a Xander that he was really Alexander but people won't care once you explain.
I really think Jaxx is a bit out there but maybe with one X it'd be better.
I also don't like Xander and Bobby together because I think most people tend to have a 'formal' middle name iyswim? I think Xander Robert Brown is a fab name!!
But of course, it's up to you OP and it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks so go with what you want! You'll regret it if you don't!
Congratulations Flowers

TrippingTheVelvet · 20/08/2018 17:20

I don't think anyone is suggesting you're actually uneducated rather than using it as a euphemism for chavvy. I hate that term but I have to say I agree. That's what your name choices shout to me Blush Some of your family names are lovely though.

LucyLou19 · 20/08/2018 17:34

Thankyou @jollyholiday I think Xander Brown sounds lovely too,I think it will be Robert or William middle name xx

moredoll · 21/08/2018 02:44

Xander is short for Alexander. My. DP's uncle is called this.

midgesforever · 21/08/2018 03:07

Xander is alright, I would assume that it was a nickname, because it is. There is no way Bobby flows after it and two nicknames seems rather more than careless towards the poor DC.

kenandbarbie · 21/08/2018 21:25

Alexander Robert is lovely
Zed?

kenandbarbie · 21/08/2018 21:29

Jaxx is awful

Iizzyb · 21/08/2018 22:57

Controversial possibly but dc will have this name forever. Give him a full name that will work if he's a doctor or a lawyer or something else where a proper name is needed but you can shorten from day 1 and he then has the option to change as he grows up.

Not suggesting this name but Eg James - can be Jamie or Jimmy - I know an adult still Jamie and another who gave up Jamie as he got older, was James for a while & now Jim.

Also unusual/difficult spellings are a total pita imo. Nobody ever spells my surname right other than my family or so it sometimes feels. It's not even an unusual one. It is really dull having to spell your name for everyone all the time.

Coco2891 · 21/08/2018 23:06

I can't hear / see Bobby as a middle name with out thinking of Ricky Bobby -Talledega nights -anyone else ? Or just me 😂

Coco2891 · 21/08/2018 23:06

Love Xander tho -it's only 2 syllables so no need to shorten it

Ohyesiam · 21/08/2018 23:19

Jaxx is ok for a rapper, but I’d still judge it even then!
I’d hate to go to a job interview with a nickname , good to have a name to use on some formal occasions, even if it’s only a few times in your life and is generally only on paper. It might seem ok to you, but it might not to your child, so good to have the option.

LucyLou19 · 22/08/2018 10:42

@coco yer I thought it doesn’t need shortening either. Me and OH love it,this is the reason we’ve not told anyone not even our parents what we’ve picked. we also have a Polly and an Esmee they’re 14 and 7 so not bonkers names but not tons of them either so needed something to go with them xx

Xander /Zander was on our shortlist for dd1 had she been a boy. Also like Bastian (not Sebastian)

I don't think bobby or Jaxx works Bobby as it give suggestions of 2 shortened names (and doesn't need to) for Jaxx it is just too many X's for my linking.
