We’ve got two girls and are so lucky to be having a boy....we’ve picked Xander! Anyone else have a Xander? What do you shorten it too? Thinking Bobby for a middle name xx

If your going to use Jax I'd suggest using it with just one X. Too many x's

TatianaLarina · 20/08/2018 09:43

Count Ducula is right about Jaxx.

ChellySmuff · 20/08/2018 09:44

My nephew is Xander David.

I like the idea of a ‘quirky’ first name with a more traditional middle name.

Xander Michael
Xander Ray
Xander Steven
Xander Thomas

Etc

BitOutOfPractice · 20/08/2018 09:50

I knew a Xan at uni. He’s a film critic now. Writes for the Guardian a lot. I thought it was weird at the time but I rather like it now.

I agree that Bobby doesn’t go as a middle name.

And as for Jaxx the PPs are right. It’s heyond awful. I would judge the parents of a Jaxx

QueenOfMyWorld · 20/08/2018 09:50

I like it but id spell it Zander

AuntieStella · 20/08/2018 09:53

Zander is a fish

I really wouidn't, even if I thought the name was brill

bobstersmum · 20/08/2018 10:01

Xander is ok. Bobby is good. But not together. Jaxx? Is that even a name?

Secretsquirrel101 · 20/08/2018 10:24

Xander isn't a name in itself, and paired with bobby is just awful. Jaxx is horrendous.

GinIsIn · 20/08/2018 11:33

Jaxx?! Have you considered ‘Basement’ as a first name?

Sophronia · 20/08/2018 11:34

Jaxx is terrible! Why the double x?

Xander is ok but not with Bobby as a middle name. Xander William or William Xander would be better.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 20/08/2018 11:44

Sorry but if I saw Xander Jaxx or Xander Bobby as official name I would assume uneducated parents, you may well lol but that is what people will think (but not say out loud)

Alexander Robert is lovely and then call him Xander

Jaxx/Jax is naff

Bobby is fine as a nn for Robert

NynaeveSedai · 20/08/2018 11:45

I know a Zander- I know it's 'wrong' but it looks better than Xander.
Jaxx is awful especially with a name beginning with X!

NewHampshire · 20/08/2018 12:19

I would also assume uneducated parents if the name was Xander Bobby or Xander Jaxx.

Xander offsets it a bit, but those middle names are horrific.

NewHampshire · 20/08/2018 12:20

Xander William, on the other hand, is lovely.

SnowyAlps · 20/08/2018 13:02

Xander Jaxx- it comes across you can’t spell

LucyLou19 · 20/08/2018 13:11

My best friends boy is called Jax 😂😂she will laugh her head of when she sees these comments xx

Pudding01 · 20/08/2018 13:14

Xander works on its own, if you really hate Alexander 🙂

Xander Bobby just doesn't go. Having two nns together looks a bit silly.

Xander William is better.

I don't normally have strong negative opinions on names (that I voice), as I get everyone's tastes are different... But Jaxx just looks retarded to me.

Narya · 20/08/2018 13:16

I would say if you aren't using Alexander as the full first name, go with Zander rather than Xander.

Xan is a common shortening of Xanthe, so personally I wouldn't use it for Xander.

Illiam is a great middle name that goes with most other names. Jaxx looks made up I'm afraid and will attract a lot of judgements Sad

LucyLou19 · 20/08/2018 13:17

Xander is a name on its own? It’s not just used as a shortened version of Alexander 🙄 it’s on all the baby name lists we’ve been looking at.

Agree that jazz suggests a lack of education/sense. Sorry but you did ask.
I quite like Xander but even better is Xavier with xav as a nickname. Jackson is nice as a nickname. So much better than jaxx...

Xander Jackson
Xavier Jackson

Both are better than Xander jaxx or Xander Bobby which don’t flow and are too nicknamey imo.

schopenhauer · 20/08/2018 13:19

Sorry jaxx autocorrects to jazz...

Pudding01 · 20/08/2018 13:34

If that was a reply to me, I did say Xander works on its own 🤷

It is a name like Theo, Josh, Toby etc... All names in their own right now, but they are shortenings of their original names.

I'd definitely go with a more traditional middle name, to level it out 👍

AtticaRose · 20/08/2018 13:42

Exactly, what @pudding01 said.

I think Xander is fine on its own, in the same way that Josh, Jack and Toby are, but it IS a shortening of Alexander - it doesn't have any other origin. So people will naturally assume!

That's part of why people are suggesting longer names for the MN, rather than Bobby.

Theresomethingaboutdairy · 20/08/2018 13:42

Xander Bobby, just no. Two nicknames together doesn't work and Jaxx is just awful and, I agree, a sign of uneducated parents.

CaptainCucumber · 20/08/2018 13:45

Xander is meh
Jax is awful
Jaxx is atrocious

Xander Jaxx is a diagnosis.

I would assume you were illiterate
