Girls names that work in British and Polish

We have settled on a boys name we love but are struggling to think of a girl's name.
I like Rosalie, Meredith and Orlaith but OH says they will be lost on his polish family. We both really like Violet but I don't love it.

Viola, but Wiola is pronounced Vee-oh-la.
Marta, Maria, Anna, Rosa, Cara etc would work.

I live in Poland with my Polish husband so we have had this discussion a few times! Some names used in Poland that are more or less the same in English are;

Anna
Hanna
Emilia
Marta
Aneta
Gabriela
Eliza (el -EE-za)
Lilianna
Ada
Daria
Adela
Matylda
Apolonia
Klara
Anita
Magda/ Magdalena
Natalia
Sara
Nina

There are many more that are similar to British names but have differences in spelling or pronunciation such as Julia (starts with a y sound), Klaudia (like cloud), Maria (stress on the first sylable), Oliwia, Wiktoria, Izabela, Patrycja and Alicja. In most of these cases I am pretty sure the Poles could cope with the British version of those names.

P.S. All Polish female names end in "a". My (always female) British name does not and am constantly being mistaken for a man. I am not sure if that is important to you but I thought I should let you know!

annabellethecannibelle · 18/08/2018 14:03

Rosalie in Polish is Rozalia (Roz AHL ee ya).

BobbyGentry · 18/08/2018 14:04

Katia or Katie
short for
Katerina/Katarina or Katheryn/Katharine

Ginmakesitallok · 18/08/2018 14:04

PerfPower · 18/08/2018 14:06

Justina? (Softer J in Polish)

EvilTwins · 18/08/2018 14:07

I’ve taught polish girls called Alicja (she’s in the register as Alicia), Emilia, Magda, Julia & Wiktoria.

Soubriquet · 18/08/2018 14:07

Long as it ends in an A, it will work.

So Joanna, Olivia, Patricia, Anna etc

MikeUniformMike · 18/08/2018 14:12

Barbara, Helena

Threeminis · 18/08/2018 14:24

I have a friend known as Ola but her actual name is Alexandra

Frazzled2207 · 18/08/2018 14:30

I thought in Poland year ago and there were loads of Alexandras known as Ola!

DC2018 · 18/08/2018 15:40

Thanks everyone for the suggestions so far. Read a few to my OH who liked a couple. I really like Alexandra but that is my niece's middle name so not sure I could use it? OH still loves Violet best x
