I can't find an 'us' name

As the title suggests, we are struggling to find a name for both boys and girls that we feel is 'us'. Come up with a lot of names we like but that don't feel like something we would actually choose or could imagine calling our child. The only one I am actually considering right now is the girl name Frances as it is the closest thing I can imagine to the type of name we would choose. We have two boys already called George and James. George is named after a grandfather and we loved the name and James is a name we liked mainly based on the nicknames. I guess from our boys names it would appear we are more traditional/old fashioned. I guess I am seeking help to actually find a name that fits.

John or Johnny
Seth
Tommy or Thomas
Edward

I love all of those.

Greeneyedgeek83 · 16/08/2018 23:10

Edward is on my list but I am not totally sold. I love thomas but I don't like any of the nn's that it will inevitably get shortened too :(

George and James are my favourite two boys names Smile
Others on our list were Henry, Peter and Frederick.

The Frances’s I know have sisters called Karen and Emma. It’s a nice name, I see it as traditional but perhaps a little austere. Maybe you would consider Jane, Sarah, Anna, Laura, Ruth, Hope.

I love Henry but it is OH dad's middle name and he didn't have a good relationship with him so he won't go for it.

How are you all pronouncing Eleanor as I love it but I know people say it differently?

Some names have been mentioned that are already on my list so I am feeling a little bit more reassured that they actually might be us names. Names like Helena, Susannah and Martha are on the list.

We had Frances, Helena, Susannah, Martha, Evangeline, Evelyn and Margot on the list and for boys Francis, Edward, Isaac

Evangeline, Margot and Frances are all over these boards in the last week! I like Martha best, from your most recent list. Beautiful, underused, goes so well with your other boys’ names...

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/08/2018 01:18

William seems a logical choice. Robert? Elliot? Guy? Miles?

Eleanor is lovely, if pronounce it Ell en or. Gabriella? Hester? Honor? Maura?

AjasLipstick · 17/08/2018 03:28

Tess is nice for a girl.

bridgetreilly · 17/08/2018 07:58

I've only ever heard one pronunciation of Eleanor:

I can't imagine how else you'd say it. Like Elena?

AtticaRose · 17/08/2018 08:27

How about looking on some popularity lists and seeing what names are approximately as popular as the names you like?

There are also lots of threads on classic/traditional names.

I thought you'd be looking for names ending in "-us", and I can think of LOADS. :-D

TatianaLarina · 17/08/2018 11:04

Of your list I like Helena, Martha and Margot.

TatianaLarina · 17/08/2018 11:05

Edward would be my choice for a boy.

TatianaLarina · 17/08/2018 11:06

I’ve only heard Eleanor pronounced Elenuh. But some people on here pronounce it EleaNOR.

AuntieStella · 17/08/2018 11:07

I like Edward best of your boy possible, and would add Alexander, William and Rupert.

I like Helena, Susannah and Margot best of your girl possibles.

pipilangstrumpf · 17/08/2018 11:12

I like Helena and Elena. I'm not so keen on Eleanor, I dislike the -nor part.

Icklepup · 17/08/2018 11:19

Eliza
