Winter coat.

Cbeebiesrehab · 12/08/2018 16:31

I know a little girl called Winter nn Winnie. Suits her perfectly. Go for it-people will always have an opinion but it’s yours that matters!

Singlenotsingle · 12/08/2018 16:32

Winter? Reminds me of Mrs De Winter from. "Rebecca". Why don't you call her Rebecca? Or even Manderley? Winter is just bleak and dreary.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 12/08/2018 16:32

Nothing wrong with Winter, I have a Summer myself. And I think the middle names are lovely in their own right, I think though paired with winter they become a little jools Oliver esque! A bit hippyish

kaylanelson · 12/08/2018 16:33

As I was searching for names I came across the spelling 'wynter' which I really liked but I felt like people would always be pronouncing it 'why-n-ter' ... or do you all prefer this spelling?

@Cbeebiesrehab thank you so much !

FlappyFeet · 12/08/2018 16:35

I like it.

Summer is pretty common around here so why not?

Chelseajunior · 12/08/2018 16:37

I love it!! but would not be brave enough to use it

Chunkymonkey123 · 12/08/2018 16:37

I love the name Winter, makes me think of beautiful frosty days and cosy fireplaces.
If you love a name it’s best not to ask for opinions really as everyone will think differently.

tararabumdeay · 12/08/2018 16:38

Don't be daft. It's not a name.

Frogscotch7 · 12/08/2018 16:38

I like Winter with both middle names. I wouldn’t choose it for my own kid but I think it’s a really nice name. I don’t like the spelling with the y though. Winter can be beautiful and poetic - so your child can own it!

mothertobe789 · 12/08/2018 16:41

I think its a lovely name, think i prefer the spelling wynter...but both are nice!

Ginger1982 · 12/08/2018 16:42

Sorry, I think it's awful. She's going to have to grow up and be taken seriously at some point.

Having said that, I don't mind Summer and Autumn so maybe if Winter was used more and became more popular I wouldn't mind it.

DramaAlpaca · 12/08/2018 16:42

I don't like Winter as a first name. As well as a season it's a surname to me.

I like Violet as a middle name very much. I'm not going to comment on the other suggested middle name, which probably tells you what I think of it.

JohnnyKarate · 12/08/2018 16:44

I used to teach a little girl to swim called Winter Rose. It is a pretty name that once you associate with a child doesn't seem an odd name choice. Although when I met her again at 18 she was going by Rosie.

Please don't give her a unique spelling. If you like Winter then use that spelling.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 12/08/2018 16:47

I don't mind Winter on it's own but Winter Blossom sounds like a character from My Little Pony. Winter Violet is marginally better. As you're dead set on one of those as middle names then I would consider a more traditional first name.

Stillmonday · 12/08/2018 16:53

I think it's lovely OP!

I wouldn't worry what most people on here say, if you've read other threads most mumsnetters only like names in the top 10 or suggestions like Gary & Wendy 😂😂

QueenOfIce · 12/08/2018 17:00

I like Winter, most importantly if you like it then that's all that matters!

Treaclepie19 · 12/08/2018 17:05

I love it.
Winter Blossom or Winter Violet are lovely.
I think either would work well.

AppleDragon · 12/08/2018 17:08

Winter Violet is beautiful - love it

Yannia · 12/08/2018 17:19

Don't like it at all. I have a friend named Violet but she hates it. Winter is too Game of Thrones - in my opinion (which you are of course allowed to disagree with) it just isn't a name. Blossom... hmm...

I want to call my DC Cassius or Valentina. Couldn't care less what people think so I'm not asking!

daisypond · 12/08/2018 17:45

I like Winter, and it's not my style of name at all. I think it's nicer than both Summer and Autumn, and I'm not sure why. I don't like Winnie, though. I see what people mean by Winter Violet or Winter Blossom seeming like paint colours or a little twee, but they're middle names - it doesn't really matter. She/you might get a lot of "winter is coming" comments, though.

rainingcatsanddog · 12/08/2018 17:51

Winter and Violet are good names but not together imo as it sounds like paint or a candle fragrance name. (Blossom makes me think of cows- sorry!)

ASpringerEspanya · 12/08/2018 17:52

Winter is coming...

pixieloux · 12/08/2018 17:58

I like Winter, it's floating around on our list but I don't think we'll be brave enough to actually use it. It came about as I suggested Winnifred but DH doesn't like it... We'd use Winnie as a short form too. I'd 100% use it as a middle name but we use Irish origin middle names. I do agree that it's probably not the best match with Violet or Blossom despite liking it - especially the sound of Winter Violet.

I don't think many peers of a Winter born now will know the Game of Thrones reference especially as t's ending next year. Adults will but would an adult openly make fun of a child's name to their face/in front of their parents?
