Opinion on boys name please

I’d really welcome honest opinions on our boys’ name list please. Prefer shorter simple names as surname is quite long. I’m from an Irish background and husband is Scottish but open to any suggestions. These are names we agree on so far:
Jack
Joseph/Joe
Evan
Sean
Dara
Lorcan ( I know this breaks the short rule!)
Thanks in advance.

They are all nice names. I think Sean & Evan are my favourites.

My only suggestion is that I'd go for the spelling Daire over Dara.

Girlred · 05/08/2018 14:49

Just to add that my dream name for a boy was Rory but my best friend just called her first born that so it’s out now. Other names that I love which have been used within family are Oran, Conal, Ben so probably why I’m finding it harder.

Cormac?

Rockandrollwithit · 05/08/2018 14:50

Evan is my favourite of your list, lovely name.

ASliceOfArcticRoll · 05/08/2018 14:52

I like all your names tbh. So not much help there..

MariaMadita · 05/08/2018 14:52

Jack: it's a bit boring / too popular imo.
Joseph: not my cup of tea but it's fine.
Joe: I prefer John.
Evan: nice.
Sean: nice.
Dara: very nice.
Lorcan: gorgeous!!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 05/08/2018 14:53

Joe and Lorcan are okay. I'm not fussed on the other names. I have an irrational detest for Jack.
I don't think a 15 year old boy will appreciate being called Dara. It's a girls name, isn't it and a pretty one, at that.

Girlred · 05/08/2018 14:53

Thanks DramaAlpaca, I like those 2 a lot myself so good to get another opinion. Will keep the Daire spelling in mind if we consider Dara, just thought it better to keep it simple as possible. My DH thinks the Daire spelling more girly looking for some reason but not sure I agree.

I second Cormac.

Do you like Ronan?

ContraryToPopularBelief · 05/08/2018 14:56

What about Rhuiridh? It's not Rory so not the same as friend's baby and fits well with the Scottish heritage.

TatianaLarina · 05/08/2018 14:57

Like Lorcan best.

Evan is Welsh so not an obvious choice (don’t like it anyway).

Oisín/Ossian
Finn/Fingal
Sholto
Dylan
Lachlan

redmini4 · 05/08/2018 16:15

Lorcan is the nicest.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 05/08/2018 16:17

Love Joseph/Joe

SunsetOverEasterIsland · 05/08/2018 16:24

Lorcan is lovely and it's a name I suggested on a different thread.
Love Joseph/Joe but am biased as it was my Dad's name and Joseph is our DS middle name.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 05/08/2018 17:27

Love Jack and Joseph.

Girlred · 05/08/2018 21:12

Thanks everyone for opinions so far, will discuss some of the new suggestions with DH when he gets home. It looks like Lorcan, Joseph and Evan the favourites. Evan my DH’s favourite and doesn’t seem to be too popular where we are. Dara and Lorcan my favourite so lots to think about.

I like Evan best out of your list. Joseph and Jack are nice too. Not a fan of Sean, Dara or Lorcan x

littlecabbage · 05/08/2018 21:21

Jack - lovely name but too popular
Joseph/Joe - yep, like these
Evan - like this too
Sean - sorry, think.it can be a bit chavvy
Dara - makes me think of a girl
Lorcan - hardly ever heard this name but like it.

Picknickers · 05/08/2018 22:50

Joseph was on our list for a boy. Love it.

Surroundedbycats · 06/08/2018 22:01

Otto

SunsetOverEasterIsland · 18/10/2018 23:24

Lorcan - love this name and was on my list
Haarken
Sven

Sophronia · 18/10/2018 23:27

I like Dara best but prefer the Darragh spelling.

Shadow1234 · 19/10/2018 00:51

Another vote for Lorcan here!

Peachbubble · 19/10/2018 06:52

I like Lorcan and Jack

Lipsticktraces · 19/10/2018 06:59

Lorcan is such a beautiful name. I wanted it for one of my twins if we’d had two boys. DH said it sounded like locust thoughHmm

Agree with Darragh being a better spelling.
I like Joseph too.

No to Jack as it’s too popular for my liking, ditto Evan. I quite like Sean as you don’t hear it much these days.
