Husband and I really struggled from the offset to choose a name for a boy. We hoped to have a group of names for boys and a group for girls. That way we could hopefully choose one when we see their little face for the first time. We found out it was a boy many months ago and have REALLY struggled to find names we both like.

We wanted a name that wasn’t common but not too bizarre. We really like ‘Lochlan’ but made the mistake of suggesting it to people. I am Scottish and H is English. H really liked the idea of Scottish/Celtic or even Scandinavian names. We thought this was a good compromise...but not sure if the mixed reaction is a sign to choose something else!

Thoughts!?!

Thank you in advance Smile

I really like Lochlan. I'm Scottish too and know a couple men in their late 20s named Lochlan and Lachlan. Its different but not strange. If you and DH like it then go for it x

Racecardriver · 03/08/2018 13:52

I don't particularly like it but nothing wrong with it.

FairfaxAikman · 03/08/2018 13:59

If you like that, what about Struan?

I like it.

Thank you all so far. Not sure you’ve noticed but 2018 seems to be the year of baby boys galore!! So lots of names have been used - like Caleb etc

H doesn’t like a lot of names suggested - he’s very fussy! Names like: Alban, Caelan, Euan, Ethan, Ruaridh, Struan ... have been suggested and we’ve been through so many websites for inspiration! He just keeps saying no!

To make things more difficult, H is called Daniel - so we need to be really careful with our boy’s name! Don’t want him to be teased 😂 So no names beginning with D...

Baby is due anytime soon - I may be induced after an appointment on Monday, hence the panic!!

Why would he be teased because his dads called Daniel?

BackforGood · 03/08/2018 14:40

I was wondering why he would be teased for his Dad being called Daniel ? Confused

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 03/08/2018 14:42

I thought it was spelt Lachlan (Scottish) or Lochlainn (Irish). I love the name either way.

Aprilshowersinjuly · 03/08/2018 14:43

Hamish!!

flumpybear · 03/08/2018 14:47

Cameron?
I also like surnames as first names so do you have a nice family name that's a surname like Campbell, Forbes etc ?

KateMcD451 · 03/08/2018 14:49

I'm wondering about the Daniel thing too!

longbar · 03/08/2018 14:50

Look at OP’s username

Danielle1311 · 03/08/2018 14:51

We are Daniel and Danielle(!). Should have made that more obvious Smile

Lachlan is the Scottish spelling but we preferred the Irish spelling and thought it would cause less mispronunciation as we live in England - also I’m from Glasgow, so the Irish connotations is fitting.

His middle names will be Guy James, so Hamish was ruled out quite early because of the James.

Thank you all again!!

Oh 😂

I don’t usually look at usernames!

LoveInTokyo · 03/08/2018 15:42

I prefer the Lachlan spelling.

What about Angus, Rufus or Douglas?

itbemay · 03/08/2018 15:45

I like Guy as a first name.

28holid · 03/08/2018 15:55

Angus

Danielle1311 · 03/08/2018 15:55

I suggested Guy to my husband - it’s his father’s name. Got a no... Sad

Interested in the Lachlan preference - to me it seemed more feminine looking. Definitely worth discussing with H!

I love Hamish, Angus, Magnus (know a gorgeous one who is 4!) and Douglas.

I know a lochlan who gets called Lockie.

I really like the name Koen for a boy and a star trek name Seek a for a girl!
