Juniper, Dusty or Vivienne?

Hello all,

DH and I have completely opposite ideas when it comes to baby names. After not being able to pick a single name we agree on, he picked DD1 and it’s on me for imminent DD2. It’s down to three - Juniper, Dusty or Vivienne. I like them all a lot but there’s no single name that has blown me away and I’m sick of dithering.

Thoughts please?

I love Vivienne an Juniper, but Dusty is very...different. I just can't get behind it. I love unique names and all, but Dusty just doesn't sound pleasant.

Juniper is probably my favourite, as Vivienne is feeling a little bland to me as of late (I know of 4 under age 6, it seems to be pretty popular in my circle).

I know a couple of small Junipers, it's growing in popularity. Don't like it though. I do quite like Dusty and I know a lovely person called Vivienne so I've always liked that name.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 25/07/2018 15:34

Vivienne.

Susannach · 25/07/2018 15:48

Vivienne or Juniper. Not Dusty!

dannydyerismydad · 25/07/2018 15:51

My first ever boss was called Juniper. Juney has a very special place in my heart.

Dusty is a great name for a pet. Not so much for a child.

Vivienne is quite unusual. I don't love it, but I don't hate it.

Candyflip · 25/07/2018 15:59

I am not so keen on Juniper, it has a really harsh, ugly sound. But I love June. Vivienne is pretty but quite popular. Dusty also has an ugly sound.

DailyFailAreTwats · 25/07/2018 16:08

Vivianne is lovely. I actually quite like Juniper too - definitely different (although it does make me think of gin...)

Dusty is, I'm afraid, awful. Please don;t!

GahWhatever · 25/07/2018 16:09

What an interesting trio!

I agree with pp that Dusty is (by far) the weakest of the three.
Vivienne is OK, quite harsh sounding to my ear, a sort of no-nonsense girl.
Juniper, again, OK. She is the daughter of someone who likes fabric wall-hangings and gin.

I'd swap Dusty for Josie, Vivienne for Valerie and Juniper for Cordelia.

If none of your three blow you away then keep looking.

lenalove · 25/07/2018 16:12

Vivienne is quite dated imo. Juniper is ok especially if shortened to June. Dusty is a no from me.

Greeneyedgeek83 · 25/07/2018 16:14

Vivienne. So beautiful

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 25/07/2018 16:19

Vivienne is the only niceish name. Juniper is odd. But definitley not Dusty. She won't thank you for that in years to come.

mammmamia · 25/07/2018 16:27

I don’t like any of those but I love Juno

PippilottaLongstocking · 25/07/2018 16:31

Juniper is lovely
I once knew a Dusty short for Dustina, she was very beautiful and glamorous
Not so keen on Vivienne but it’s not awful either

Shockers · 25/07/2018 16:31

I can imagine a trio of cats with those names.

I’m pretty old though, so probably out of touch.

niceupthedance · 25/07/2018 16:33

Vivienne is horrible.
Juniper is ok reminds me of Jupiter though
I like Dusty but you'd need a story behind it I think...

villainousbroodmare · 25/07/2018 16:41

Not Dusty though if you ever had a son you could call him Dirty.
When I was twelve I just loved the name Vivienne. It's still nice but feels a bit dated to me now. Juniper is quite appealing in a hippyish way. I like Juno or Juni as a shortening more than Viv.

Sessy19 · 25/07/2018 17:00

I LOVE Dusty!

Given its lack of acceptability here, would your OH go for it? Dusty Springfield’s real name was Mary Catherine I think, so perhaps you could name her Vivienne Juniper and use Dusty as a nn?

Icklepup · 25/07/2018 17:42

Juniper

juneau · 25/07/2018 17:46

Juniper is bitter and/or poisonous, so doesn't really have a good vibe about it IMO.
Dusty - well if you're a big Dusty Springfield fan than okay - but otherwise I'd have to say no.
Vivienne is the best one.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 25/07/2018 17:48

Juniper.

Gorgeous name.

MikeUniformMike · 25/07/2018 17:58

I'm not mad about Vivienne, and would pronounce it the same as Vivien.
It's ok and at least it is a known name. Viv is ok as a short form.
Juniper is cute but a bit ginny.
Dusty. No. Dusty bin, Busty...

Mamami · 25/07/2018 18:37

Not particularly a Dusty Springfield fan. I just like the name. Must admit ‘busty Dusty’ did make me think twice though as we’re all pretty early and full bloomers in my clan...!

It’s a shame everyone hates it. I really want something a little less run of the mill but don’t want to bestow a child with a lifetime of active nose wrinkling at the mention of her name.

Thanks for the input all. Appreciate the good and bad.

Dusty isn't to my taste but the other names are nice.

ScreamingValenta · 25/07/2018 18:40

Dusty makes me think of this Grin :

Elliebobbins · 25/07/2018 18:41

Vivienne would be my pick.
