We want to call our dd Mimi, but want to give her the option of a longer, more professional name should she want it in the future.

Which long name for Mimi would you choose from this list? We're really struggling to decide...

Jemima
Emmeline/Emilia/Emily
Miriam
Imogen
Esme/Esmé
Hermione (hadn't thought of this one previously, but saw another thread where the OP had a Hermione nicknamed Mimi)

Cosima is gorgeous! That’s a great idea.

Theycouldhavechoseneve · 24/07/2018 09:25

The Jemima I know gets shortened to Mima. I do though think you’re wise to use Mimi only as an informal name

elQuintoConyo · 24/07/2018 09:38

Claire.

rosy71 · 24/07/2018 09:40

I knew an Amelia nicknamed Mimi.

TheMythicalChicken · 24/07/2018 09:45

Mimosa? Minerva?

catinboots9 · 24/07/2018 09:54

Naomi

DontCallMeCharlotte · 24/07/2018 10:09

(The only Imogen I know IRL spent her entire schooldays being called Mog.)

I would go for Miriam or Naomi.

aliceinchunderland1 · 24/07/2018 10:48

I have a Mia, NN Mimi Smile Jemima is my favourite from your list.

Gruach · 24/07/2018 10:51

I didn’t know any name other than Cosima could be shortened to Mimi!

Cosmoa · 24/07/2018 11:07

My nickname is Mimi.. It always gets a great response! Even at my age (28)

rainbowstardrops · 24/07/2018 11:50

I know an Amira who gets Mimi. She is 40 and really suits it.

I love Emily and Hermione from your list.

Hangingaroundtheportal · 24/07/2018 11:53

The two Mimis I know are Jemima and Emily.

MikeUniformMike · 24/07/2018 12:00

I would say that Miriam or Maria would be the best choices.
I wouldn't go for Amelia/Emilia etc because they are overused.
Jemima and Imogen are a bit of a stretch.
Why not just use Mimi though?

autumndreaming · 24/07/2018 12:04

I would say:

Amelia / Emilia
Jemima
Mila
Michaela
Millicent

ooobisto · 24/07/2018 12:19

I knew a Maria called Mimi

Sophronia · 24/07/2018 12:57

Maria
Marie
Amelia
Emilia

LeeMiller · 24/07/2018 15:36

Camille. Noemi. Marguerite. Mirabelle. John Lennon's Aunt Mimi was Mary. Miriam is closest.

I think it's one of those nicknames (like Coco) where there doesn't have to be a strong link with the given name, but the further you stray in terms of sound, the more likely it is that once she gets to school another, more obvious nn wil be used if you choose somethng like Jemima or Imogen.

I know several Mimìs in Italy but they're all men - it's the standard shortening for Domenico.

emmajameson · 24/07/2018 15:48

Emilia is gorgeous😍

LeeMiller · 24/07/2018 16:01

Mireille. Miranda. Clementine. Mimi in La bohème is really Lucia, I think.

Ohyesiam · 24/07/2018 16:09

I would call her the one you like best and not think about the “ bit of a stretch” brigade.
My known by name is not a direct shortening of my full name and no one had ever queried it.

MissVanjie · 24/07/2018 16:10

Miriam

gorgeous name

bumpsadaisy11 · 24/07/2018 16:12
