I love this name! Feedback from two friends one adores it and jealous she didn't think of it, the other happens to have it as middle name for daughter so also a fan. I'm scared to share with my sisters or mum in case they don't like it that will bother me, happy to take opinions from strangers without being offended :)
Daphne means Laurel tree, has ties to freshwater (i love nature) daphne du maurier one of my favourite authors and happened to be reading Rebecca and watching lots of Frasier (Daphne Moon) in first 3 months of pregnancy. I like that she's unlikely to meet any or many Daphne's I think it's a beautiful name but worry about her hating it. Re nicknames I think Daffy is quite cute but not a fan of Daff but I think Daff is inevitable!

I think of the character from Nash ville, I hear people talk about it a fair bit among my pregnany friends but I've never actually met a baby daphne.

Tortycat · 21/07/2018 20:12

i think its lovely and don't know any. but don't really like nn daffy or daff which i think they would end up being called

Rainatnight · 21/07/2018 20:13

LOVE it. Regret not using it for DD (just didn't think of it in time).

Did a similar thread on Daphne a few months ago out of curiosity and got very Marmite responses!

The first bmw I ever loved. She doesn't have to be Daff.... she could be "Phee" or "Nee" or Dee dee etx

RachelfromFriends · 21/07/2018 20:14

Name not bmw ! Confused

Smushrooms · 21/07/2018 20:15

I love Daphne du Maurier but it's an incredibly ugly name IMO.

Srilli · 21/07/2018 20:18

Yuck sorry don’t like it

BabloHoney · 21/07/2018 21:00

Daphne is gorgeous! Great name

kenandbarbie · 21/07/2018 21:08

I like it, I wouldn't mind about scooby doo, I love scooby doo. There is an annoying character in some other movie or tv show called daphne, but I can't bring it to mind properly. I think it's cool without being too old ladyish, it's kind of retro and 70s in a good way.

lottiegarbanzo · 21/07/2018 21:24

Quite cute. Much nicer than Dierdre. (Sylvie, rather than Sylvia is nice too).

I do think it may become fashionable - as great-grandparent fashion moves from Edwardian to 1920-30s.

The first time I came across it was in an Enid Blyton book (Mallory Towers I think) and I read it as 'Dafe-n'. Took a while before I heard the name and realised.

eggncress · 21/07/2018 21:27

Love it !

Mayhemmumma · 21/07/2018 21:29

I know a two year old Daphne. It's cute but doesn't shorten easily, daph is a bit grim imo.

LilacTeal · 21/07/2018 21:32

I'm Frasier Crane and I'm listening.

Daphne Wink

madcatladyforever · 21/07/2018 21:33

Love it.

pandarific · 21/07/2018 21:57

I like it - tres chic. But then I have great love for Dinah (sigh) which everyone else hates.

Petalflowers · 21/07/2018 22:01

Dinah is great

TheLastNigel · 21/07/2018 22:02

I wanted it and exh said no. I love it.

Agustarella · 21/07/2018 22:10

Stunning name, I considered it for DD2 but it might have caused confusion, since my granny, also Daphne, is still going strong. Like @Firsttimeunicorn's granny, she was born in the late 20s. Time for a revival, I think!

LynetteScavo · 21/07/2018 22:10

If you and your 2 friends like it, I'm guessing you're all young and live in London.

I'm in my 49s and live in the midlands and thinks it's awful. I realise I have to accept I'll probably have a grand daughter called Daphne in 15 years Grin

Enko · 21/07/2018 23:15

I love it and it was in the top 3 list for my dd's we didnt use it in the end as none of them felt like a Daphne but its a fab name

Enko · 21/07/2018 23:16

Laughs reading @LynetteScavo I am similar age to you but love it..

superlol · 21/07/2018 23:21

I like it but I associate it with scooby doo. So scooby dooby doo would be my first thought when it was said unfortunately.

Thesearepearls · 21/07/2018 23:22

It's a family name for me so perhaps i am biased but I think it is very beautiful. I have a daphne in my garden actually

Daphne is a greek name - originally a naiad—a type of female nymph associated with fountains, wells, springs, streams, brooks and other bodies of freshwater. Because of her beauty, Daphne attracted the attention of Apollo who pursued her and just before being overtaken, Daphne pleaded to her father, the rivergod Ladon, for help. So Ladon then transformed Daphne into a laurel tree.

bringbackfonzi · 22/07/2018 00:03

Daphne is lovely, imo. A little Daphne would be very cool.

Agustarella · 22/07/2018 00:11

I'm not sure why the Scooby Doo association is bad. Daphne was the hot girl, who wouldn't want to be her? No disrespect to Velma!
