Hi ladies,

We are stuck between these two names for our dd2. I’m currently over 41 weeks so she should be coming any day and we still haven’t decided Blush

Eleanor seems like a more classic, safe bet and Celeste is maybe a bit more out there though also a classic name it is far less common.

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

How big is Babar (the elephant) in this country? Celeste is Babar's wife. The book is supposed to be an allegory and criticism of colonialism and autocratic rule so I instantly think of this when I hear it but I m foreign. You can read about it on Wikipedia. Lovely name otherwise!

Both are wonderful names but I love Celeste. I would have pushed for it if our surname didn't start with T - it doesn't elide very well.

I like both very much.
There's a new baby Celeste on my road. I immediately thought of the Babar stories but that's not a negative connotation at all - it's rather charming.
I have a slight preference for Eleanor- l'm wondering if Celeste is a bit fashionable/ becoming popular, whereas Eleanor is just a complete unpretentious classic.

I prefer Eleanor but it is much more common ... Matilda & Eleanor are both names of queens, so how about Isabella, Elizabeth, Victoria, Caroline, Philippa, Joanna, Catherine, Margaret, Henrietta ...

I don’t really like Celeste - I keep hearing the nickname silly!
