Eleanor or Celeste

Hi ladies,

We are stuck between these two names for our dd2. I’m currently over 41 weeks so she should be coming any day and we still haven’t decided Blush

Eleanor seems like a more classic, safe bet and Celeste is maybe a bit more out there though also a classic name it is far less common.

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Celeste just rhymes with molest and I can't get over that. I adore Eleanor

Susannach · 04/07/2018 14:00

Eleanor is lovely but Celeste is fab! Go with that.

AsleepAllDay · 04/07/2018 14:08

Celeste is a bit more unusual & not hard to spell. Eleanor can sound a bit mousy depending on your last name

heatwave2018 · 04/07/2018 14:09

Never heard of Celeste and just think in the future then trying to get other people to spell it on the phone. Eleanor is such a lovely name and I don’t hear many people called that (apart from Ellie of course)

lottiegarbanzo · 04/07/2018 15:14

Another starry one - Callista.

SoftBlocks · 04/07/2018 15:18

Celeste.

BarbieV7 · 04/07/2018 16:02

Starkid I can see what you mean about Eleanor being boring compared to Celeste :)

Jj2431 haha I’ve heard other people mentioning that, I can’t say that would cross my mind at all! Bought of course it good to know this could be the way it’s perceived.

Lottie callista is beautiful too! I like the way you think!

I really like Celeste but I like Callista as pp suggested even more!

Eleanor is a great name but it does seem serious which is part of it's charm.

I can totally imagine introducing myself as Celeste and feeling rather fabulous!

BarbieV7 · 04/07/2018 17:52

Anya on another thread I read someone had said something along the lines of: I try to imagine if I would love to introduce myself with my name, that sort of seals or breaks the deal. It’s actually surprisingly helpful!

Callista is so gorgeous too, but I think Eleanor and Celeste still edge ahead a bit :)

Oh both are absolutely lovely

Cosmoa · 04/07/2018 18:29

Omg haha Celeste is soooo NOT a stripper name! People are ridiculous. It's a gorgeous name. I also love Celestia Smile

Mountainsoutofmolehills · 04/07/2018 18:30

Can't bare Eleanor. Celeste is a queens name.

TatianaLarina · 04/07/2018 18:32

Can’t stand Eleanor (and does the world really need another Ellie?) or Celeste. Both very dowdy. Eleanor very unoriginal.

Much prefer Aurora, Helena and Heloise from your choices.

throwcushions · 04/07/2018 21:03

Celeste is lovely but I'd be wary of the nickname Kelly.

anothermat · 04/07/2018 22:15

I know a Mathilda who has a sister called Celeste. Beautiful name. Go for it.

BarbieV7 · 04/07/2018 22:20

Cosmo, I agree! And Celestia is lovely too.

Throwcushions, kelly really? Can’t say I would have made that connection!

Anothermat, really? Oh that’s such a coincidence, we clearly have very similar taste :):) donthwy have any other children?

Joeybee · 04/07/2018 22:39

I prefer classic names, so prefer Eleanor. Eleanor is versatile, classic, but not overused. I think you could name any child Eleanor and the name would fit.

Celeste however is a little bit....hippy, fairy, a little bit pretentious sounding to me. It's also a little weak sounding. Also not much nickname potential.

mikado1 · 04/07/2018 22:43

Not mad on them but a friend has a Celeste and an Aurora- I like that!

anothermat · 04/07/2018 23:00

BarbieV7, literally cannot believe how much we share the same taste in names. I have a Clementine myself and if I was ever blessed with another girl, I have Estella on my list. Also loved Cecilia.

Not sure if you meant did I have other children or my friend with the Mathilda and Celeste?

Quantumblue · 04/07/2018 23:15

Love them both but Celeste is the standout. Really beautiful. My dd is Celia so I was in this zone too. Also v tempted with Sylvia.

bringbackfonzi · 04/07/2018 23:23

Eleonor would be ok imo with the nickname Nell. But I prefer Celeste. Estella or Stella are even better.

Ceebs85 · 04/07/2018 23:23

I absolutely love Celeste!

Whitesea · 05/07/2018 03:31

Slyvia was also on my list! It is so beautiful and underused. Really fab name.

I like an awful lot of names on this thread.

A PP pointed out about Celeste Also not much nickname potential, I'd consider that a huge advantage.

pixie8 · 05/07/2018 05:18

Definately not Celeste.
