What are your thoughts on Eugene for a boy?

It's better than Eustace.

I know a Eugene in his early 50's. Nothing like PP's ideas of what a Eugene would look like. He's quite dishy, intelligent, excellent company and he was once my fwb.

Makes me think of a spotty geek

This is one of the only names I actually really dislike... Im not sure why, but its just my personal taste... I mean it is a traditional name and if you like it I think you should use it!

Reminds me of Eugene Wrayburn in Our Mutual Friend - one of my favourite characters. So in theory I like it but in reality not that keen...

The only one I've ever met was very prematurely middle-aged and stuffy, so I can't picture it on a small child somehow. Sad, as it's got a nice meaning.

Love it. A lot of 'old man' names are coming back into style. Eugene sounds sweet and kind, but also Gene/Genie could be a really cool nickname too, a gene sounds a bit more edgey

Yes I have a really strong dislike for it too! It's quite a uniquely horrible sound, I think because the beginning is likesomeone saying 'eugh', then the depressing 'een' ending that was discussed on another thread the other day- see Maureen, Doreen etc.
