Boys named Finn

I'm having a disagreement with boyfriend about how common the name Finn actually is - he seems to think it is really common and this is a reason to discount it.

This is the only name both of us quite like other than Leo which we can't use as it would sound a bit ridiculous paired with very near aged cousin Theo. (also too many Leo's about I think)

How many Finns do you know? I've met 2 in my life ever. Are there really loads of Baby Finns being popped out in 2018?

Any other boy name suggestions welcome, surname isn't 100% settled but will begin with either V or A.

I know 2 Finns - one aged 50, one 19, both in Germany Grin

It's a great name.

I have one! Know of a few others dotted about but I wouldn’t say it’s overused like Archie/Alfie/Teddy etc

RebeccaWrongDaily · 19/06/2018 21:12

i know tonnes of them aged 16 and under, we're in the NW.

MelanieSmooter · 19/06/2018 21:14

Just seen further question - we are SE. There’s one other in his school (who is a shit, as is mine at home but he’s angelic in public Grin ). Mine was born mid 2000s.

llangennith · 19/06/2018 21:19

Finn, Finlay and Leo are still very popular/common. Lots in nursery.

Sunbeam18 · 19/06/2018 21:19

Loads

letsallhaveanap · 19/06/2018 21:24

It seems pretty popular to me as I know two the same age as my toddler son... But I think it is a lovely name!

Fadingmemory · 19/06/2018 21:26

I know one Finn who is 15. Finn is in the top 100 names for both England and Wales & Scotland but nowhere near the top 10. Finn was 25th in Scotland. See graph (scroll down)

I have a Findlay. He is 13 - we are Scottish. When we named him we fully expected to shorten his name and call him Fin, but he really is a Findlay - although his friends call him Fin now.

TheOnlyAletheia · 19/06/2018 22:04

I have a 14 year old Finn and he is the only one I have ever met.

TheOnlyAletheia · 19/06/2018 22:05

Oh, we’re in East Anglia.

mzsink · 19/06/2018 22:10

I'm in Ireland and I know quite a few children named Finn, but no adults. Although I do know many adults named Fionn, Fintan and Finbarr. I like the name, all the versions of it.

PasswordRejection · 19/06/2018 22:55

There is a Finnion, Finn, Finley and Finlay in my DS's reception year (2 class entry). They are all known as Finn/Fin. All lovely boys. We're in Herts. I think it's a fab name.

Rednailsandnaeknickers · 19/06/2018 23:29

I know one Finn, aged 14, Scotland. To my mind Finn and Finlay/Finley are different names, not sure if that's a Scottish thing or not.

ShirleyWilliams · 19/06/2018 23:49

Finlay I like

Finley is very American, chavtastic.

Sophronia · 20/06/2018 00:39

I know one Finn age 4

DiegoMadonna · 20/06/2018 02:08

Finn was ranked 100th in 2016 with 650 boys being given the name.

For comparison, that means that

Bobby
Ezra
Leon
Roman
Jesse
Aaron
Ibrahim
Liam
Jasper
and Felix

were all around the same place but slightly MORE popular.

Leo was ranked 13th in the same year, with 3563 boys given the name.

HappyLollipop · 20/06/2018 02:10

Only know one Finlay who's 3, I think Finn is a lovely name and it's definitely not as popular as Leo.

timeisnotaline · 20/06/2018 02:51

My Finley is 3. London.

StrawberryCat · 20/06/2018 03:13

Finn is currently ranked as 261st out of baby names in England and Wales.
