Hello

Expecting our first child in October but can’t decide between these names. Just looking for some help. Smile

We have a very common second name that is also a male name. We don’t like anything too crazy.

Which do you prefer? Are there any other similar names I’ve overlooked. Do any have strange connotations?

Aaron
Daniel
Joshua
Luke (was going to be Lukas but I think the spelling would be confusing)

Wildcard choice is Dylan but I’m not sure...

Any opinions welcome!

It’s a very biblical list.

Battleax · 04/06/2018 02:04

(Hit send too soon).

So if that’s not deliberate, maybe look up the relevant bible passages/ stories?

Dolphinswimmingupsidedown · 04/06/2018 02:09

Loads of Joshuas around here.
I like Daniel.
How about Luca?

Astrid2 · 04/06/2018 02:14

Aaron, Daniel and Luke were all on my list if I'd had a boy. Classics, you can't really go wrong.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 04/06/2018 02:16

Can’t stand Aaron but the others are lovely.

Benjamin
Joseph
Matthew

Sophronia · 04/06/2018 02:36

Aaron is my favourite

FrauNeuer · 04/06/2018 03:13

Thanks folks.

@battleax purely coincidental - were atheist! Never thought about it in that way, guess it must be simply because we prefer traditional names.

Mother in law suggested Luca. I really like it but DH isn’t convinced. Hmm

I’ll suggest Benjamin - never considered it but I like how it sounds with our second name. Smile

Are you planning to pronounce Aaron “Air-Ron” or “Arr-ron”? I’ve heard both so if either bothers you then that’s something to be aware of. It is also my least favourite of your list.

I like Daniel or Luke most from your list (really dislike Luca fwiw).

Have you considered James?

DrivingMeDaisy · 04/06/2018 03:46

Samuel
Jacob

Puffycat · 04/06/2018 03:47

Love em all!

MsJuniper · 04/06/2018 04:18

I don't think the spelling of Lukas is confusing so if you like that keep it on the list.

ragged · 04/06/2018 05:27

I have anti-Luca feelings, too.
Others are ok, I have a DS with one of those names & I don't fancy the others, but they are ok. Luca & Dylan are rather left field compared to others!

Similar: Michael, Thomas, Paul, Saul, Mark, Adam, Caleb, Seth ...

TurquoiseDress · 04/06/2018 06:21

I love the name Luca!

One of my close friends has a little boy called Luca, it's definitely a name on my shortlist!

InkSnail · 04/06/2018 07:16

I like them all, particularly Daniel and Luke.

Peter
David
Isaac
Alexander
John
Nathaniel
Oliver
Joseph
Gregory
Leo
Edward
Gabriel
Frederick

Jj2431 · 04/06/2018 07:50

Joshua but I'm biased

Highpeak · 04/06/2018 07:55

Love Daniel and Benjamin. Matthew, Michael,?

James is good, unless that is the surname

Twofishfingers · 04/06/2018 07:58

Daniel is lovely. The youngest Daniel I know is 21 so I don't think it's as popular as Joshua, Oliver or Isaac, I know quite a few.

Matthew is beautiful. I'm not that keen on Luca/Lucas. I prefer Luke.

French2019 · 04/06/2018 08:04

I don't like Aaron, Daniel, Samuel or Lukas/Luca, but all of the others are lovely.

My personal favourites from this thread would be Benjamin, Joseph or Joshua. Oliver is also lovely.

crumpet · 04/06/2018 08:06

Lucas is the more common spelling, rather than Lukas, is it not?

GrumpySausage · 04/06/2018 08:07

Some lovely names OP. I'm 37+3 (and in early labour!) with DC2 and Joshua and Benjamin are on my list. We've also got Joel on our shortlist.

My gut says Benjamin at the moment but I could sway to Joshua!

sexnotgender · 04/06/2018 08:08

I love Aaron but my husband and I have discounted it as we could never pronounce it correctly after watching the Key and Peele sketch, it will always be A A Ron to us Grin

CrazyHippo · 04/06/2018 08:12

I think Joshua is over-common atm.. not saying i dont like it, just seems a lot more common than your other choices.

I like Daniel and Luke.

I personally like Aaron too but like said above, if you have any aversion to people pronouncing it the other way than you intend, dont use it. (Air-ron or ah-ron)

Samuel
Matthew
Thomas

bridgetreilly · 04/06/2018 09:10

I really like Daniel and Luke. Other ideas:

Jonathan
Jonas
Peter
Matthew

AnyaMoondial · 04/06/2018 09:10

Benjamin is a fine name.

Alexia05 · 04/06/2018 09:16

I really don't like Aaron. Love Luca or Lucas. Joshua might be quite common but that means a lot of people like the name ;-) and so do I. I also like Jonathan or Jonah.
