Hello

Expecting our first child in October but can’t decide between these names. Just looking for some help. Smile

We have a very common second name that is also a male name. We don’t like anything too crazy.

Which do you prefer? Are there any other similar names I’ve overlooked. Do any have strange connotations?

Aaron
Daniel
Joshua
Luke (was going to be Lukas but I think the spelling would be confusing)

Wildcard choice is Dylan but I’m not sure...

Any opinions welcome!

Dylan is a very old Welsh name, in folklore when he died he made the oceans weep for him. Lovely story and name, out of your names I'd say this is a great choice.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 04/06/2018 10:13

I love Dylan too, also Daniel (Danny).

MrsCD67 · 04/06/2018 11:25

Love Benjamin. Joshua is ok but I know sooooo many! Aaron is nice and so is Daniel although I don't like Luke/Luca/Lucas

Frosty66612 · 04/06/2018 11:27

Love them all apart from Luke. Daniel would be the name i’d Choose if I was having a boy

MikeUniformMike · 04/06/2018 11:36

Aaron - No because of the different pronunciations and potential for misspelling. Despite being a biblical name it's a bit downmarket.
Daniel - Classic.
Joshua - was too popular in the 1990s
Luke (was going to be Lukas but I think the spelling would be confusing) - classic. Prefer Lucas to Lukas

Wildcard choice is Dylan but I’m not sure... - Dreadful.

My Joshua is 32 now. Very unusual back then, too popular to use now, but having said that, it’s a beautiful name and works on an adult as well as a baby.

ZebraKid71 · 04/06/2018 17:52

Dislike Luca, and think it will date as it seems quite trendy in my area at the moment. Your others are all lovely. I think ym favourite is Joshua, all the ones I know are my age (early thirties) and I don't actually know any baby Joshuas.

MikeUniformMike · 04/06/2018 17:55

I don't like Luca either - it's ok if you are Italian but Luke or Lucas are more classy.

Proudmummy2MA · 04/06/2018 17:57

Lovely name choices!
My favourite from your list is Daniel, I also like pp suggestions of Matthew (but I'm biased as I have one!) and James :-)

Ikeameatballs · 04/06/2018 18:48

I love Daniel.

Ickyockycocky · 04/06/2018 18:49

Luke is lovely 😎

frasier · 04/06/2018 18:52

Daniel is nice.

Not keen on Luca at all.

happymummy12345 · 04/06/2018 18:54

I'm going to say Daniel. Because my son is Daniel, so I'm very biased.

28Febface · 04/06/2018 18:55

I have a Daniel and a Luke. Lovely classic names that are not too common now. Daniel is easily shortened to Dan when thy are older and Luke doesn’t need shortening.

Both are teenagers and neither have had many others with heir name in their years at school. Unlike Jacks, of which there are loads!

Dylan and Joshua are pretty common now, Joshua is ok but I don’t like Dylan. And Aaron has the pronunciation issue which you have to decide if it matters to you.

Shmithecat · 04/06/2018 18:56

Aaron, Daniel and Luke are lovely. Don't like Joshua or Dylan at all.

mummabearfoyrbabybears · 04/06/2018 18:56

I love Daniel from that list. My friends son is Daniel, now an adult and suits Dan very well.

Ohcomeonn · 04/06/2018 18:57

Joshua but why are you considering Lukas spelling? What's wrong with Lucas?

schoolworrier · 04/06/2018 19:21

Loads we considered on here! Other contenders:
William
Henry
Charles
Edward

ColourfulOrangex · 04/06/2018 20:36

Love Joshua :)

Lukas or Lucas just reminds me of mucus and I can't stand the name Blush sorry

I quite like Daniel too

Mayhemmumma · 04/06/2018 20:38

Benjamin or Dylan are great.

Joseph is also rather lovely.

Doilooklikeatourist · 04/06/2018 20:42

The only one I don’t like much is Aaron
Stephen ?
Paul ?

Bubblesoup · 05/06/2018 04:14

I like your choices. Love Dylan!
What about. .
William/Will/Billy
Oscar
Theodore
Michael/Mikey
Samuel/Samson
Henry
Jonah
Sean

brizzledrizzle · 05/06/2018 04:43

I like Luca but it all reminds me of the Suzanne vega song.

CactusFred · 05/06/2018 07:21

Aron
Oran
Eren

Lucas - if you like the name just use the easier spelling.

I know a zillion Joshuas and Daniels under 5.

MuddyForestWalks · 05/06/2018 07:27

I like all those names except Dylan. Two of them are DH and his brother's names, so you have similar taste to my PILs :)

My top 3 names for DS were Benjamin, Samuel or Adam.
