Names you love but could never use

Just for fun, what names do you love, but can’t use for whatever reason?

I really love Zelda, after Zelda Fitzgerald, but I feel they’d be teased because of the video game.

Anais is also cute. But I foresee lots of issues with pronounciation, and it kind of looks like anus!

Augustus - loved it for a little boy. But I feel people will forever associate it was Augustus Gloop.

What are yours?

Edgar - I’d sound like a nobhead shouting it across the playground.

Xavier

BluthsFrozenBananas · 17/05/2018 16:34

Django.

Philomena and Gaynor for girls, Caesar and Tiago for boys.

I may have to get a dog or 4.......

Ohyesiam · 17/05/2018 16:40

Scarlett , I thought that if she turned out to be shy and mousey it would be a burden of a name. She is tall beautiful and confident , she could reallly carry it off.
Raphael , I thought it was too frilly for a boy. Lack of confidence really.

SnookieSnooks · 17/05/2018 16:45

Lucy. It’s so popular, I didn’t use it.

JenBarber · 17/05/2018 16:47

Ebeneezer.

grasspigeons · 17/05/2018 16:49

Isambard

RickOShay · 17/05/2018 16:51

Tatiana

Hazel. I wasn't brave enough but it would have been absolutely perfect. It's her middle name though, so all is not lost.

The next one will be Rosa...if there is a next one....and if she's a girl!

My boy would be Peter or Robin.... but then DH would leave me as he thinks they are too twee.

Best we stick at one, really 😂

BigMamaFratelli · 17/05/2018 20:29

Genevieve and Astrid.

KeefBurtain · 17/05/2018 20:35

Bartholomew for a boy (bloody simpsons)

Juliet for a girl (with my surname it’s identical to a famous actress)

Howdoyouknowjenny · 17/05/2018 20:41

Gabriel, absolutely love it... but my big headed, self obsessed cousin would drone on about him being named for her Hmm

Tarriance · 17/05/2018 20:51

Jake
Local slang means this isn’t a nice name here...

BathTangle · 17/05/2018 20:53

Damara- everyone would think it was Demerara, like the sugar!

RavenLG · 17/05/2018 21:03

I feel they’d be teased because of the video game I think most kids would think it would be cool to be named after a video game and they wouldn't have a clue who Zelda Fitzgerald was anyway. It's a cool name regardless.

thatwhichwecallarose · 17/05/2018 21:06

Willow. Clashes with our popular surname!

BroomstickOfLove · 17/05/2018 21:14

Lucifer. For obvious reasons.
I quite wanted to call DS Crispin or Clovis, but DP vetoed them.

Aelfwin or Aethelfled for a girl.

Mayhemmumma · 17/05/2018 21:15

River

ChaiWallahs · 17/05/2018 21:18

thetriangleisarealinstrument · 17/05/2018 21:21

Psyche= beautiful story, beautiful sounding but inevitable 'psycho' potential for bullying
Isambard= awesome but its just over the cusp of too much
Blixxa= who doesnt want two Xs in their name? but also just over the cusp of too much
Lenore= awesome literary name but also washing powder
Ariel= ditto!
Medusa= mint name but obviously cant use because of the story
Iccarus= ditto
Tristessa= amazing name but what will you do if your child isnt a goth?

Inmyownlittlecorner · 17/05/2018 21:22

Queenie
Linnit

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 17/05/2018 21:29

samlovesdilys · 17/05/2018 21:45

I would love love love Rosalind but I have 2 boys...I would also love a Nathaniel...but having watched my first struggle with writing his name for years I could inflict 2nd with even longer name...

Baubletrouble43 · 17/05/2018 21:49

Dmitri. I like the two consonants at the beginning the way it looks and sounds. Never had a boy. Pretty sure dp would laugh at it anyway!
