I tend to prefer lesser used boys names so could I please have opinions on the following names:

Bastian
Emrys
Errol
Rafferty
Eustace
Angus
Samson
Ivor (pronounced I-Vore)

Also do you know any? And any suggestions of other names might like?

I love Angus and Samson and I like Ivor. I don't know anyone with any of the names on your list!

How about Emil?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 04/05/2018 07:51

Quite like Angus and Errol.
Gregor
Dudley
Alaric
Evan
Chester
Harold
Raul
Howitt
Zephyr

Innes is a favourite. Someone had a thread asking about Bruce last night. I may pinch it.

sonnyboo · 04/05/2018 08:13

Love Ivor and Angus.

Don't like Bastian, too close to bastard!

bridgetreilly · 04/05/2018 09:10

Ivor is a family name for me so I know lots and it would be my top choice of your list. I also really like Errol.

chezmk1988 · 04/05/2018 09:20

Samson is best

FoxyBoxter · 04/05/2018 10:45

Rafferty gets my vote - love it!

Also like Rupert & 15 yrs ago wanted to call my DS that but my husband refused (he said our son would get teased with a name like that) so when we got our dog 4 years ago he got given the name (my husband obviously assumes other dogs don't tease each other about their namesGrin)

Auntyirene · 04/05/2018 11:12

I like Angus.

I wouldn't choose Bastian. Sebastian is becoming quite popular and it'll be a pita going through life saying 'not Sebastian, just Bastian' (assuming you're in the UK)

Cosmoa · 04/05/2018 11:35

Samson is awesome!

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 04/05/2018 11:40

Not keen on Eustace, makes me think of a bully (think it was the name of an unpleasant character in the Narnia books). Other names are fine.

How about:
Emlyn
Alwyn
Anton
Rhett
Ivan
Benton

BlueChampagne · 04/05/2018 12:21

I like Rafferty. Always thought that Bastian was just a NN for Sebastian.

How about Conrad?

princessdaffodil · 04/05/2018 12:26

Really like Samson and my friend has just had a little boy called Saxon. Love it!

starkid · 04/05/2018 15:41

I like Samson from your list

StopBeingNosey · 04/05/2018 15:44

I like Samson and don’t know any kids with that name. Rafferty is also ice but there’s a lot of them about now.

justabunchofbunting · 04/05/2018 15:48

Ivor, Angus and Errol are all particularly gorgeous but I like all the names you have listed!

I know a toddler Rafferty and I know a grown man called Angus.

I love Alaric which was on a pps list.
I also love Peregrine, Aldous, Isambard and Phinneaus

ButterflyOfFreedom · 04/05/2018 15:52

I know of one Rafferty.

I like Samson best.

Other suggestions:
Amos
Rafe
Ivan
Victor
Fergus
Magnus
Quentin
Ambrose

Beads83 · 04/05/2018 15:55

Love Angus, Samson and from someone else list Chester :)

tobee · 04/05/2018 16:01

Is it just me that thinks Ivor Biggun? Shows my age I know. Shame coz I love Ivor the engine

Buntysoven · 05/05/2018 22:31

I love Emrys. I knew one years ago who was a real charmer!

YoucancallmeVal · 05/05/2018 23:13

Ivor is an engine.
Eustace is the mean cousin in Narnia.
Samson is a shire horse.
Love rafferty!

RoundaboutSnail · 05/05/2018 23:26

Samson and Angus are both good solid traditional names.

llangennith · 05/05/2018 23:40

Not keen on any of them but that’s my problem. Ivor will NEVER be pronounced I-vor so forget that one.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 05/05/2018 23:45

Eustace in Narnia comes good in the end though.

But always makes me think of Useless.

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/05/2018 23:50

In Scotland and know quite a few Angus and an Ivor but none of the others. I only like Angus really from those.

Others (not necessarily my taste) that fit the brief:

Dorian
Whittaker
Crispin
Edgar
Edwin
Struan
Brodie
Lorne

Enko · 05/05/2018 23:52

Conrad
Eli
Reginald

Traditional solid names however not names you hear a lot so unusual to boot.
