I absolutely love Stevie, I teach a lovely girl with this name and I don’t think it’s short for anything although I know a grown up Stephanie who goes by Steve.

Are you sure you won't be giving your daughter the idea that you really wanted a boy? Asking "in case" you have a girl sounds a bit like a contingency plan rather than a big welcome to your new daughter. Just wondering if you've considered what she might think? Hopefully this is not your motive at all...

I too was wondering why you are specifically trying to seek out a boys' name, for a girl ?

Fair enough, if you happen to like Alex or Chris or whatever, but that feels very different from specifically looking for a boys name.

youarenotkiddingme · 28/04/2018 22:14

Jamie

Nicky, Bobby, Matty.

Usually nn for Nicola, Roberta and Matilda.

Mamabear1475 · 28/04/2018 22:16

Frankie
Alex
Stevie
Toni

StringyPotatoes · 28/04/2018 22:22

One of the characters on Channel 4's "Humans" was a Mathilda shortened to Matt/Matty which I quite liked.

I also knew a little girl who told me her little sister was to be called "Harrison". At first I was surprised but it really grew on me. Turns out, she'd misheard "Harriet" but nonetheless I now quite like Harrison for a girl...

RosieCotton · 28/04/2018 23:47

I know an adorable little girl named Billie. She is the sweetest girl ever.

Oysterbabe · 29/04/2018 08:54

The Francesca I know goes by Frankie, which I think is pretty cute.

youarenotkiddingme · 29/04/2018 08:56

I know lots that are naturally shortened too.

Charlotte = Charlie
Harriet =Harry
Alexandra = Alex
Jacquline = Jaq
Nichola = Nic

They're just the ones I know off the top of my head.
