Iris or Sylvie?

This will be the last name thread (promise!) but the opinions have been so helpful so far so just wanted a couple more....Which is everyone’s favourite?

We have a one syllable surname and middle name undecided.

Both are lovely, but Sylvie is less popular so gets my vote.

Sylvie is so pretty. Iris is too harsh and overused. Do go fir Sylvie it has such a glittery lightness about it.

Iris. Sylvie is nice, but it's very elfin-like, to my ears, so too much of the fairy about it. Isn't it quite a "middle-aged" name in France?

Iris can be pronounced Ee-ris or Eye-ris so that may be confusing.

Sylvie is beautiful and easy to pronounce

I know Iris is so popular on here at the minute so it’ll definitely get lots of votes. But Sylvie just seems so elegant and classic.

DD1 (12) is Iris, but it wasn't as popular when we used it, as it is now.

Iris is obviously my favourite of the two, but if popularity bothers you, go with Sylvie (which is lovely).

Sylvie by a long shot here. I agree with a PP, Iris is harsh-sounding.

Iris is an old, quite international name and I like it. But if you want a unique name in an English speaking country, you'll have to go for Sylvie.

In my country - I'm not from the U.K. or an English speaking country - Sylvie is a very common (French) name. Mostly among women above 35. It's actually an old name here that came back in fashion after a generation or 2. My grandmother had a friend (who was even quite a lot older than she was) whose name was Sylvie. And my parents also had a French friend names Sylvie who is now in her 70s.

And I know quite a lot of Sylvie's, it's also the name of one of my best friends. :-) They're all between 35 and 45 years old and it's either written like Sylvie or Silvie. So here it would be a bit weird - or also unique ;-) - to name a baby like that. But I wouldn't doubt if I were you cause it is indeed a quite unique name in English. And I also think it's a pretty name. :-)

Iris is my DD's middle name. Rainbow, flower, iridescent. Love it!
