Iris or Sylvie?

This will be the last name thread (promise!) but the opinions have been so helpful so far so just wanted a couple more....Which is everyone’s favourite?

We have a one syllable surname and middle name undecided.

I hate both

I have never heard anyone mispronounce Iris as Ee-ris! It's just like the flower, surely?

Personally, I love Sylvia. I don't like Sylvie quite as much, but slightly prefer both to Iris.

In lots of languages the letter i is always pronounced as ee.

In German for example Iris is pronounced Ee-riss, just like Irene is pronounced Ee-re-ne or Isabel is pronounced Ee-sa-bel.

In French Iris is also pronounced Ee-ris.

So actually the English way is rather unusual.
