Positive boost for our chosen name please

'Violet'

Feeling a bit down and pathetic and need a boost.

Family have made it clear they don't like our chosen name. I ignored it at first but it is increasingly hard. New suggestions are constantly thrown at me. I too had doubts about it, but DP wouldn't budge and my favourite name changes weekly. The name doesn't fit with family tradition of having long girls names, and as pointed out by mumsnet it is apparently very popular (unusual names are in my family). From all the arguing the name has sort of stuck and now I'd regret not using it in the future.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the name at the start. It was one of 4 names agreed by me and DP (Jennifer, Elizabeth, Lucy, Violet - also Katherine somewhat). I love how it looks and sounds, and out of all floral names this is the only one I'd consider using.

I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I am fine with people disliking the name, in fact when I posted here originally a lot of people hated it but we went with it anyway! Baby due anytime now and I just need a little positive boost or slap to get these hormones in place.

I really really like it. It is strong but feminine.

I had my DD on the 22nd and she’s Violet. Funnily enough, the only other name we thought she looked like when she was born was Lucy.

We’ve had lots of compliments on her name.

Never had a bad comment on it. I Love it.

Do you like the name Violet? If you do and your DH does, then sod everyone else's opinions. They can/have their own kids to name 🙂

I love Violet, but my DH wasn't keen, so we are using it as a middle name. Refuse to discuss names with anyone but your DH until little Violet is here!

I know how you feel about having a family of long and unusual names.. I have no less than 3 middle names to go with my first unusual name! It's a big deal in my family.

We've gone for a name that's exactly 4 letters long with one middle name, also 4 letters long!

Violet was on our list too - it's a lovely name.

Violet is lovely. My great grandma was Violetta, I love it and would have been on my list if we had had a girl.

I know it's easier said than done but just ignore their comments, it's between you and your DP it's nothing to do with anyone else, they have had their opportunity to name and this is yours! Go for what YOU love. Nothing wrong with Violet as a name.

It's none of anybody else's business what name you choose, but for what it's worth, I think it's lovely!

Congratulations on baby Violet!

It's a beautiful name! I have a 3 month old, Violet who was almost something else because of MIL's comments but I'm glad we stuck to our guns. You love the name for YOUR baby and that's all that matters! I definitely couldn't imagine calling mine anything else now.

I have a 2yr old Violet, when people ask her name and hear it 99% instantly crack an incredibly warm, happy smile and say how much they love the name/what a gorgeous name etc. I think its beyond cute on young girls but without being twee, and graceful on a grown woman. Enjoy your lovely Violet!!
