DD2 will be here in 10 days and I’m completely freaking out about names.

We have an Elizabeth (nn Lizzie) which I think is timeless and classic with lots of cute nickname possibilities. Can’t seem to find another name that’s in the same league.

Thought we had decided on Georgina/ Georgia but now having real doubts, plus DH wants Georgia and I prefer Georgina.

Other names I’m considering:
Katherine - love Kitty but would rather not use Katherine as I have lots of close friends with the name.
Emily - love but too popular
Emilia - too much like Amelia, which is too popular
Annabel - not convinced by Anna, Annie or Bella
Jemima - worried it’s a bit ‘out there’, not in love with Jem or Mimi either.
Rose/ Rosalind (nn Rosie) - love Rosie but our surname starts with R and DH thinks it sounds like a stripper name!
Francesca - DH has vetoed
Matilda - DH isn’t keen
Alice - seems a bit ‘plain’ somehow.

Not keen on Victoria or Beatrice and Juliet doesn’t work with our surname
I like Margaret, Charlotte and Alexandra but can’t use because family members have taken them.

Any thoughts on the above?

How about Martha or Esther or Lily?

FannyHertz · 22/04/2018 22:45

Would Nell or Nellie work as a nickname for annabel?

ThunderR0ad78 · 22/04/2018 22:50

I have an Annabelle, she's 11 now and her name has never been shortened by family or her friends. I think its pretty and classic and still love itall these years later!

My second child is a boy but had he been a girl he would have been a Clara...love that name. Def not overly used - good luck in choosing!

I think one person's idea of timeless and classic is another person's Confused - some of the names suggested are really quite modern imo, others really old fashioned so just go with what you like!

I think Georgia is v popular - my eldest DD is 13 now and out of an antenatal group of 15, I think 4 of 10 or so girls were Georgias. Georgina is more timeless.

I like Kate from your list (Katherine) and Anna (don't personally like Annabel), Emma.

FireplaceLover · 22/04/2018 23:53

I also have a Lizzie. She has brothers but had they been girls they would be Josephine and Frances. I also loved, Katharine (with a K)
Other names I like and see as timeless:
Rosalind
Camilla
Isobel
Margaret (Maggie)
I’m also really loving Mary at the moment. I think it’s going to be very popular over the next few years.

I like Georgia but prefer Georgiana, Georgiana or Georgette

Katherine - i really like Katherine and Kitty. Have you considered Christina nn Kitty. I'm thinking of Christopher can be Kit then why not Christina nn Kitty

Emily - I also love but it's too popular
Emilia - not a fan. Emily is so much nicer

Annabel - love but I love Annie

Jemima - not out there. I've come across a few. I'm not a fan of the nicknames either

Rose/ Rosalind (nn Rosie) - love Rosalind.

Francesca - love it
Matilda - too popular for me. I know more Matilda's than Emily's
Alice - it's ok
