What do you think of the name Rory? It's my DH's front runner if we have a boy but I'm not sold. All I can think is Rory Mcilroy and I'm not a golf fan...

Dh is a Rory, and its quite in common with his age tbh (Rory Gallagher was the inspo o believe!)
Now there are so many babies/Young’s children with the name, dh often turns hearing is name in a supermarket when mums are shouting on their kids!
I do really like it for a little boy.

We actually gave Dd Rory as a middle name, and it’s unreal how many people have actually told us how awful it is for a girl, and we’re cruel (honestly!) so unfortunately I’m really regretting giving it to dd, but i still love it for a boy.

jammiebammie · 14/04/2018 21:31

*uncommon, bloody auto correct.

I’ll second @evilharpy, dh is a lovely guy Grin

EmmaC78 · 14/04/2018 21:32

I like it too.

Pixie2015 · 14/04/2018 21:32

Love it, it was in my top 2 boys names x

BBCK · 14/04/2018 21:33

Really like it. I think it is classless, ageless, and pleasant on the ear.!

Muddlingalongalone · 14/04/2018 21:34

I really like it but always want to sing "Rory the racing car" every time I hear it. including all through the Masters last week

Trialsmum · 14/04/2018 21:37

Love it, If we had another he’d be Ruiari ( said like brewery without the b). But we’re not Scottish so it would become Rory.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 14/04/2018 21:47

I really like Rory - lovely name.

Have you thought about Kit as a nn for Christopher if you don't like Chris?

BringMeCoffeePlease · 14/04/2018 21:48

I’m not keen on it. It’s very bland.

Vexatious · 14/04/2018 21:48

Great name. For a boy.

PandaCat · 15/04/2018 00:15

I think of Doctor Who when I think about Rory. DD2 (8 weeks) would have been Rory had she been a boy.

stellinaa · 15/04/2018 03:47

I love it as a nickname for a longer name (Gregory, Rowan/Roman, Laurence, etc). Not so much as an official first name though, feels too short and cutesy Hmm

Much prefer Rory on a girl than a boy too, my mind goes straight to Gilmore Girls Grin

fitbitbore · 15/04/2018 04:02

Great name for cheeky little boys 😬

BitOfFun · 15/04/2018 04:09

I absolutely adore it, but I could be biased, as I've just named my extremely beautiful "Red King" (the name meaning) puppy that.

Rory?
Ginandplatonic · 15/04/2018 04:24

Love it but DH vetoed, so I insisted on it for the dog! He now says he thinks it's a great name and denies ever vetoing it...🙄

Ginandplatonic · 15/04/2018 04:43

That is a very cute puppy BitOfFun

Squashpocket · 15/04/2018 05:23

@Muddlingalongalone yes exactly, me too! Golf or kids tv is where my mind goes as well.

@BitOfFun aww now that's a cute Rory

Short for Gregory? Rowan? Roman? Laurence? Confused Even though it isn't even short for any of those names? Typical Mumsnet naming logic.

It's an ancient, well established name! But if Gilmore Girls is your only cultural reference what can I say...

blinkineckmum · 15/04/2018 06:33

I find it a bit hard to say. No harsh consonants to hang on to.

Love it

popcorneveryminute · 15/04/2018 07:09

Love it, a great name for a small child or grown man IMO (not so keen on it for a girl though)

pipilangstrumpf · 15/04/2018 07:21

Difficult if he can't pronounce his R!

vampirethriller · 15/04/2018 08:46

One in my family. I like it. And at 6"7 cutesy isn't something he's bothered byGrin

chezmk1988 · 15/04/2018 09:38

Love Rory but my only reservation would be whether it suits an older person. Cute for s kid though
