I like it, it is the name of a little girl in my DCs class at school.

IVflytrap · 31/03/2018 13:40

AuntieStella, that's "Wespe", not Vesper.

dingdongdigeridoo · 31/03/2018 13:40

It’s a bit unusual for me. Was it a Bond girl then? Were there jokes about taking her for a ride?

RavenWings · 31/03/2018 13:42

Vesper is the girl from Casino Royale, so very recent. I liked her and the name a lot, but it would put me off a bit.

AuntieStella · 31/03/2018 13:42

Yup, I forgot the spelling (long time since I did German) but it sounds the same (doesn't it?)

That's why the Vespa moped got its name (or possibly the urban myth version) - because the engine noise sounds like a buzzing wasp

Greenyogagirl · 31/03/2018 13:44

Makes me think of a scooter

DwangelaForever · 31/03/2018 13:48

What is wrong with people that they have to go out of their way to ensure their kids are different 🙄.

I've been here before and I know exactly the feeling of wanting to be different but this name is beyond a joke 😐

Sorry, not sorry that's my opinion..

TerfsUp · 31/03/2018 14:06

I'm in the minority here, but I love the name Vesper for a girl.

(And, yes, I speak Italian and when I lived in Italy I had a Vespa 55 cc.)

Oysterbabe · 31/03/2018 18:29

How about Vada like from My Girl?

chezmk1988 · 31/03/2018 18:34

Not a nice name imo

PotteringAlong · 31/03/2018 18:35

I know one! She’s about 3. I don’t like it though, it never seems like the name fits her.

Chocolaterainbows · 31/03/2018 18:40

I love it Grin

LotsToThinkOf · 31/03/2018 18:46

Why would you do that to your child?? Confused

Carrotcakeorchocolatemuffin · 31/03/2018 18:50

PotteringAlong I also know one who is 3!

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 31/03/2018 18:50

Reminds me of Vespre sanitary towels that were sold in the 90’s I would rethink OP

LucyGayheart · 31/03/2018 18:50

Latin for ‘evening’. My association is mostly with the evening liturgy, but I imagine for most people it will be the Bond girl, as played by Eva Green in Casino Royale.

DullAndOld · 31/03/2018 18:53

it's awful, it sounds like a motorbike or a church service.

Me too Grin

Onceuponatimethen · 31/03/2018 18:59

Makes me think glam Bond girl, baddie/ catty/waspy

Names like this are a bit tricky if you don’t fit them. If like me you look like a librarian who enjoys the archers. I would not make a good Vesper!!!

TheHobbitMum · 31/03/2018 19:04

Just no

Niskasrevenge · 31/03/2018 19:07

Valda, Vanda, Velda, or Velma do it for you?

(I loved the name "Valda" as a girl because of that character in the Mandy comic who could live forever thanks to her "crystal of life". Then, unfortunately, I had a next-door neighbour called Valda who persecuted her downstairs neighbour by holding her shower to the floor so that it would soak through to her flat and stamping loudly above her for hours at a time in the evenings... Sadly, - but happily for us, neighbours - she was eventually sectioned. It put me off the name!)

MeltingSnowflake · 31/03/2018 19:11

I liked it in the Bond film but I think it wouldn't fly IRL - I think as she got older she might get a lot of teasing about being a bike, etc. etc. due to the Vespa moped connotations.

SenoritaViva · 31/03/2018 19:16

I clicked on the link to talk about my scooter that I loved. I don't dislike the name per se but all the links (scooters/wasps/bond) make me dislike it. Plus to me is in the category of trying a bit too hard (sorry!). Can think of worse though!

What about Hester? Similar sounding and means 'star'.

MammieBear · 31/03/2018 19:23

Lovely unusual name that stands out and you wouldn't forget them with a name like that the meaning is equally pleasing as well.

cushioncovers · 31/03/2018 19:28

It's a moped not a name sorry op
